View Full Version : 86' Tecate chain guide help

I am in need of a chain guide for my Tecate. Mine is pretty much worn thru. Is there any current ones that will fit since I cant get the OEM part anymore? I would like one that wraps around the front area to protect the pivot point. Has anyone made one? Help....this is about the last thing I need.

Snowmobile hyphax work great. Some cutting and a bit of work is needed, but it will attach with the oem holes in the arm. When done correctly, it looks almost oem. The plastic like material is extremely rugged, and availiable in a multitude of colors for a custom look if desired. At the point of wrap around the pivot, thickness has to be removed from the backside, beveled for a nice look, and a smooth bend. You'll figure it out after a bit of work.

I have heard the one for the 85 is the same, although I don't know if it's true or not. Either way you'll have a hell of a time finding one. I just made one for my 85 after extending the swinger. If you have some basic welding/metal fab skills it's pretty easy. If you want I could take a pic of the one I made tomorrow. I also installed chain rubbers in it to prevent the chain from rubbing through, and they also keep the chain from falling off. I would recomend always running a guard with the rubber to keep the chain on because if your chain jumps off it can go right through your case, and they don't make engine cases anymore either.

no the 84/85's are different, they are one peice, where the 86/87's are a two peice design. one on top, one on bottom.

Is there one (snowmobile model/brand) you would recommend for a starting point? Is it bendable with heat? Any pics of the one you did?

Didn't you just buy a NOS one off ebay for like $36?
