I'm sitting down here in Louisiana riding out the last of huracane Gustov. Work is closed today, kids school is closed today and I'm bored. I rolled my Tecate in the garage and replaced the stock handlebars with some bars from a Honda 450R that I got a while back in a package deal for some other parts I wanted. Anyway I figured I would switch to a thumb throttle when I switched bars but my parts train has left the station on that one. I have thumb throttles from a Suzuki Z400 and an older style Honda throttle and neither one will fit my cable. The carb, cable and twist throttle all came from an '01 KX500. I'm thinking I'll need a new cable to do this; my carb is a Kehien PWK39; what cable do I need to look for to fit the carb and preferablely the Z400 throttle?
Oh yeah and since there's been a lot of Tecate action on the board lately I thought I'd throw up some pics I took today of the fastest Tecate around so the new guys would know who to call when they wanted to run the fastest. She's a pussy cat:twisted: , just as tame as can be:D .

you need a new cable. i do not know the part number but i had a 250r thumb and 39mm pwk. the cable was a pro motion.

Chris order a Z400 cable . There will have to be some mods done before that thumb box will be perfect. But since you have the fastest tecate around you'll figure it out .
Later slow poke!!

Going to thumb throttle! How dare you! That's sacreligious!;)
She looks nice for sure-
Hey, they don't still make a 300 kit for the 85's do they?

dont you mean motion pro cable? its kinda the same with the blasters, when you take the tors off the only cable to work is the motion pro thumb throttle one. Or twist throttle if thats what ya have.

oh god is chris getting a touch of random strike syndrome? try sprock racing for the 300 kits, not sure if they still have them, but its worth giving cory a shout. if not on here, try over at planettrike.com

Oh Yeah Chris, She's looking like she's ready for battle. That camo tank looks like it's still hold'n up. I remember reading about what happend when you let sombody ride it.
Glad to see it's still alive. We missed you at trikefest man. Hope to see you next year.

Justin, I was some-kinda-pissed that I couldn't make TF this year. The tank is holding up okay, but is beginning to show wear where my knees rub against it when I ride. I'm getting the urge to pull the camo off and paint the tank white. I met a guy a couple months back that claims he can paint it so that it will last.
Did you get Too-Hottie running yet? Did you run it at TF? If so, how'd it go?
Fabio...yes it's a Sprock 300 jug with his billet cool head. As far as I know Corey will still build a 300 cylinder, but isn't making any more cool heads.
Scooteroo, I got it back together a month or so ago. Turned out being bent triples, funny thing is that I still can't see anything wrong with them, but when you put them on the wheel points right a bit. When I finnaly put on another set of triples it went together straight. I put the Front Max on while it was apart.
On another note, the new rubber on the rear, Kenda Knarly MX 18x10.5-8, are extremely sticky tires. I've had 3 different rear tires on this monster and the little Kendas spin the least.
Gustov is gone and I had no damage! Good stuff.

Yeah, I ran it at TF. Did real well I might need to drop a tooth in front for some more out of the hole power. I had some rear brake issues but got that fixed now. I am building another t3 and hope to have it at 09. Allthough right now I'm thinking that 4 1st gen t3's might be a bit much. But you only live once, so they tell me.

You're starting to look a bit like a one trick pony, but hey not getting any complaints from me.
What sprockets are you running on Too Hottie?
I have 14/34 on mine with 18" tires; it's geared a little too high, won't get out of the hole well. I have a 38 rear I'm gonna put that one and see how that goes.

I'm running 14/38 with 18'' fast trekers. I thought 13/38 might be better for a drag application but I haven't tried it yet. Other then that I think 14/38 is a great all around choice for 18'' tires.

Nice, very nice!
Now you need a +4 HREATV swingarm for better holeshots. :P

I was surprized how the +2 changed rideability. It doesn't spin around on a whim like it used to, sure is a hole lot more stable launching. I've toyed with the idea of a longer swinger and making a mostly drag trike, but I have too much fun ripping around the woods on it so not gonna do it right now.

hey chris, is yours a regular kxt cylinder or kx? can corey do a kx cylinder as well? thinking i might be having to have him do mine up for me! now with the higher number of t3's showing up and coming out of the woodwork, wonder if he is going to do another run of the cool heads.

Man I can't give away all my secrets...okay yeah it's a KX jug, and Corey cleaned up the flash marks and stuff. Not real porting, just a clean job.
I'd bet if you caught Corey in the right mood there isn't anything he wouldn't do for you, me or anyone else, he's a great guy; in a full grown child sort of way.
Hey Scoot, how's your LT250R running? I toasted my topend about six moths ago. Well yesterday I run across a guy with a freshly sleeved RM250 topend, piston, reeds, carb boot, everything looks good. I'll soon be riding two different ATV/bike hybrids. I've read the RM jug doesn for the LT engine what the KX jug does for the TEcate.

No sence beating around the bush. I missed TF this year and I'm looking for some good trike action. Nothing around here can touch my Tecate in a drag. Oh well, hoping I make TF next year so I can see how my build stacks up against some real competition.
Glad I made your day.:w00t:

good thing you dont live in Oregon.. lol... I hear some guys have lotsa good parts sitting in thier sheds..

An LT cylinder has more potential, but a RM cylinder is a good bolt-on ugrade. I had a RM topend on mine for awhile.. its a good upgrade, but probably not as big of gain as a KX/kxt cylinder swap provides.. the RM intake wont work since it angles to the left, I used a RM465 intake and it wasnt right either... The 87 LT500 intake would probably be best, followed by the '87 LT250 intake if you wanted to keep the airbox. Some people like to use LT pistons, But I had great luck with the drastically lighter RM piston...The single ring lasted just fine for me and the engine ran noticably smoother... I wouldnt even consider using an LT piston ever again.. If you do use a RM piston be sure to use the RM head, or have the LT head rechambered as the pistons have different domes. -Justin
EDIT: the RM piston should be machined to use thrust washers.. otherwise the rod can still walk side to side on the crank pin..

cr480r, I appreciate the rm tips. I need a new topend and I figured that the rm jug would be worth a shot. I was using a Pro-x single ring piston in my Lt engine, I'm not afraid of the single ring, it worked really well. I have an 86 rm intake boot coming and I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I want to run the airbox; I may have to rig something up.
First I've heard of machining the rm piston for thrust washers. I've read the oposite, good to get rid of the thrust washers.

The '86 RM intake angles the carb to the left... which happens to interfere with the exhaust.. The RM465/500 intakes are strait, but tilt the carb way too far forward when put on a LT... I would look for a '87 LT intake.. from a 250 if you want to run an airbox, or from a 500 if you want a big carb

The RM piston doesnt fit tight enough to the rod... its a tighter fit than an LT piston would be without washers, but still allows about .100" of play... people may get away with it, but its not a solution to eliminate the washers

I'm already running a 38 Airstryker carb, I should look for a LT500 boot.
When I put the latest topend I went with an rm250 wrist pin bearing and DrQ billet thrust washers. Maybe I can make those work for me.

yeah that should work real good.. It should run hard and still be mellow enough to race cross-country.. the RM wristpin is also much lighter than the LT.. It seems like the LT piston setup was meant for longevity in a recreation machine and the RM parts were meant to be raced and maintained at more frequent intervals.. some people are leary of the rm parts, but I put mine through a season of hell at the dunes, with the compression jacked way up, the jetting off and ignition issues... the piston still had great compression and looked like new when the rod went through the cases...
