I made one out of sheet metal for my X. I mounted it right to the top clamp. Fairly easy to make. There are others out there made of plastic with the old school look if thats what your after. I made it more for style, which is not really practical for actual racing purposes.:wondering But hey, it works and looks ok.

Nice. So could I just buy any plate on ebay (generic) made for dirt bikes and it would work?

I think ive seen others who have tried the cr125/250 number plates on their trikes. I guess you could go down to a local dealer and make sure the measurements are right and then just look on ebay for the best deal. I know that the xr50 plate works for sure - I had one on my X for a little, but it got lost on a trail ride.

Use the early tecate one. First gen R's have a wide front end, so it should work perfect.

Yeah, it sure is nice! I like the white plastics. Been thinking about buying the white plastics for my R from maier - I dunno. If they offered black for the 82 I would jump on it but it's between red and white.
But that bike sure makes me think about going with white!! Nice R'
and thanks guys for the answers.

Your R and X must be distant cousins or something-
