Discovered this mod the other day for the 1983-1984 atc250r , mine is fully road legal in the uk and so far has been faultless- both on and off the road.Took it to trikefest in Wales -Then covered 1500 miles on the road and decided more power was needed especially on the motorway.I decided to fit a 38mm honda cr250 carb ( pj38 oval slide) 1991 model and have taken some snaps to help others. Got a carb off e bay for £40 replaced the needle cos it was bent and began to make it fit.The bike comes with a 30mm pe carb fom keihin and does a fare job but for slightly tuned engine the pj is a must.
Simply boil the rubber intake hoses for a few mins then with the help of an assistant stretch the intakes over the carb and secure with thin jubilee clips.I had to installed the carb to the airbox end and then wiggle the carb into place and bingo. The carb came with stock 175 main jet, with i knocked down to 152 and a 55 pilot and hey presto- what a difference! . The bike has a full dg pipe, boyesen reeds and a uni- filter but apart from that it is standard. It now wheelies in 2nd/third even with road gearing -and blew a 911 porshe off the lights last week.Check out the pics -send me a message if your interested i am always happy to help....
