Hey guys, well just recieved my first trike this last weekend from a friend. He gave me a atc185s that has been in his shed for a couple years that somebody gave him. It is need of quite a bit of repair work but is in pretty decent shape from what I can tell though.

My first issue is trying to figure out what year it is the last digit is worn off on the plate behind the forks, is there any other way to know what year it is? The reason I ask is the carb rebuild kits I have seen are different for 82 and 83 models. I am sure I will have more questions along the way but I have a pretty good handle on what is going on with it that I know of so far. Oh also does anyone make a new plug wire for these? Mine is wasted!!!

Probably not going to get to involved with this thing for another month or two but I just want to get my ducks in a row so I can start making a parts list up for it!

81-82 has solid front forks, 83 has front suspension, 83 has a big cap tank, 81-82 has a small cap tank, 81-82 says 185s on tank, 83 just says honda(stickers are diffrent). There is probably a few other things but that should help you identify it.

The plug wire usually comes attached to the coil, so you might have to get a new coil assembly or find a good used replacement.

Are these different from other coils? Normally you can unscrew the wire and plug cap off the coil, and just replace the wire and cap. Its only a couple bucks. and pretty much all wires and caps are the same for almost all atc & atv's

hell, just get a new coil. should be able to snag a used one for under$10 try the classified section or ebay for your needs. most parts are interchangeable and readily available for those models of trikes.

also welcome to the board, this is the #1 trike site on the net.:welcome:

Got any links where I can get one? It does just screw on and off like you said!

Also where is the best place to get carb rebuild kit and brake cables for this thing?

One more thing the chain guard is falling apart on this thing, should I just take it off or try and peice it back together or find another one?
