Well i rebuilt the carb and pull start on a 185s that a budy gave me and got it running but it has a pretty loud knock in the top end on it. It seems to run fine but just makes a lot of noise! Any ideas on what it might be? I did the old screw driver to the ear trick and it is not loud at the crankcase but is very loud when you hold the screwdriver to the head.
Any ideas on what it might be? I am just looking for a starting point for what to do and debating on if it is worth fixing or not!

You can adjust the timing chain and it will probably quiet it down some. Pull off the black cap covering the adjuster while it's running and loosen the bottom bolt and it will adjust itself. Tighten the bolt back up and replace the black cap.
Also does it smoke?

Rob where is this cover located at on the bike?
And no the motor doesnt smoke at all other than a little black from it running rich when you rev it from an idle! It has great compression too!

Download the 185s/200 manual here (right-click, save target as)

In the Routine Maintenance section at the beginning find the cam chain tension adjustment part and it shows a picture.
Rob
If that doesnt fix it, you might want to adjust the valves.

Yeah I would adjust the valves also. They're not hard to do.

You wouldnt know where I can get the routine maintenance section of that book at would you? For lashing the rockers it says to see that section, I am assuming you set it tdc compression stroke and adjust the rockers thru the two plugs that screw in on the front and back of the top cover?

I just adjusted the cam chain on my 185 and now it purrs like a kitten, it did have a little tick and i wasnt sure what it was.
I thought i adjusted the cam chain before but i was just loosening the wrong bolt i guess. I also adjusted the valves and that helped alot too. Hopefully that will help you out

Well I checked the front valve and it was fine, so I decided not to do the rear since it appears you have to drop the motor down to get the inspection plug out of it!
I adjusted the chain and that seemed to really quiet things down but I couldnt run it very long to tell much because the carb started leaking a stream of gas out of the over flow on the bottom. Any thing besides needle and seat cause this? Where can I get carb parts for this thing?

Is there a carb rebuild for dummies around here? I am new to these hondas and they are quite a bit different than the late model yamaha carbs I have done!

take it a part and look its simple
look at it you CAN DO IT
Four little screws on the bottom corners of the carb to take it apart..
OH WAIT BEFORE YOU DO TRY THIS GIVE THE CARB A GOOD LITTLE TAP WITH THE END OF A SCREW DRIVER
IT MIGHT BE JUST A STUCK FLOAT>>

I had the same problem with the overflow just last weekend. I took the bowl off and bent the tab on the float a little so it would rise higher as the fuel level rises. Fixed the problem. I tested it with water in the sink to make sure I fixed it right. Was tired of gas flowing all over every time I tried it.

GOOD POINT but
If you bend the little tab down the wrong way you will then have a over flow problem bend it up a tad the floats will shut off quicker below the over flow tube solvin your problem to// When bendin them just slightly..like very very very little..To much you will be running out of gas or over flowing... Bend the small tab under the needle not the arms that floats sit on..
I would try a good cleanin before that..
