I got my first DNF of the season last weekend because of a tire failure on saturday...and I race on sunday. Some of the problem can be attributed to my stuborness, but I need to think about taking a spare set of tires and wheels to the race with me. So here's the question? Do my spares need to be exactly like my primary tires/wheels? Or could they, or should they be different to offer a slightly different capability? For example, I've been running 22" Holeshot GNCCs on the front and 20" Holeshot HDs on the rear. I have a set of 22" Kenda Knarly XCs that I've raced with on a muddy track with good results so I could use that for spare rears. Would that mean I should go with a set of 23" fronts, like a Kenda Klaw XC or ITP Holeshot XCT? I've never run 23" fronts and don't think they'd be ideal, but at least my ride height front to rear relationship would be somewhat intact with the 23" fronts and 22" rears. Or I could just get a set of 22" fronts and run with them. The only time I've raced the Knarlys I ran the 22" rears with 22" fronts and it worked just fine. I guess I'm overthinking it...what do you guys have to say about this subject? What spares do ya'll take to the race?
Thanks,
Chris
