View Full Version : Better choice for mud?
What is a better choice for mud for a front tire? Narrower or wider. I assume narrower will give more control and less resistance but sink more? And the wider will float more but create more resistance? And I know it is nearly impossible to steer in mud with a wider tire.

well that really depends on what type of mud you're talking about.
from what I've seen, a lot of the places people on here ride have sort of a soupy mud. in that, I would indeed go with a narrower tire.
down here, and in a few other areas of the country, we have a very very tacky mud. incredibly thick and heavy, if you step into it, you're very likely to lose whatever shoe and sock you were wearing. while a thinner tire would provide less resistance and weight, it would also bury you before you knew it.
a wider tire will be place fewer psi on the mud...and therefore be less likely to sink...but once it gets balled up on the tire, it'll weigh a ton.
mud riding on a trike is pretty easy, sit above the rear wheels, hit it hard in second, and never let off.

i run dirt devils on my 250sx and mud lites on my250 big red.both machines do extremely well in all conditions.keep in mind that a trike even with crap tires can still do well with a good rider.good excuse to get muddy and tell the wife your practicing:lol:

Mine came with mud busters i kno they are cheap but they are a gnarly tire, i keep up with the 500 sportsmens i run with and they hit every mud pit they can find. The V tread digs so much when i try to do donuts in wet grass i can usually only do 90 degrees, throws big ol' chunks of sod and leaves a clear dirt strip where i drove, then front lifts up :\
like he said, second gear full throttle, hop around a lil over rear wheels and as long as u dont drown it ull get through. Ive got a narrow front tire due to my 250r triple and it does ok.
