Here's a couple of pics she needs a lot of work. Thinking $35.00 bucks aint to bad though. Doable project.:pics: I'm not to familiar with these 70's. I need to find a manual and a recoil starter. Does anyone know what the plug goes to? The fuel lines are hard as rocks!!! I tied a little rope to the flywheel and pulled it, it seems to have compression. Well do you guys think its worth the 35? UPDATE: I downloaded a manual but its not very clear on testing. I pulled the magneto off. Surface rust on everything so I've been cleaning it up. I've never had ANYTHING with points on it before. So I guess I'll play with them and see if the work at all. Any pointer would be greatly appreciated!

4 wheels?

(enter 5 gallon bucket of drool) BLUE!!! $35.00!!!! Thats a steal. I always loved the 70 but the blue on is my fav. Nice find. You can get plastic here
http://www.dratv.com/bodyparts.html and other good unavailable parts. Maier also has fenders but it is cheaper there.

sure it is blue but it needs help...

presure wash it first.

change fluid(oil/gas), change sparkplug, remove the coffee can off the carb, dismantle the carb clean throughly, new fuel lines, and it looks like some dope tried to rewire it. new air filter direct or just use airbox but make it is clean first.

I am not up on my history of the year of the 70's,but if I recall correctly, that is a 1983 70 special edition blue.35 bucks is a steal!!!

That plug is supposed to be there. It is where the "CDI" is supposed to be connected, but it is hard to tell from the pic if it is plugged in,or missing.

Take the carb off,and clean it really good..Chances are you will need a new o-ring for the intake, where the carb attaches.Any hardware store should have what you need.
Pull out the pilot jet,and use a sewing needle to poke thru the tiny air bleed holes.Take the slide out,and use a file on it where the idle screw contacts the slide. They are usaully gauled up,and wont idle right.File the slide where there are divets, left from the screw so it is smooth again.
Clean the filter, change the oil,add some fresh gas and plug.

Put it in 3rd gear, and have a few of your buds push it and see if it starts.

Nice find.
Ohh pull starters are on ebay all the time.

You do have a 83 Blue ATC70. The Blue ones were a giveaway at Christamas, story has it that every dealer got one for a givaway sweepstakes. New blue fenders are near impossable to find. The one that Dr ATV and Maier have a darker then the originals, but if you are not going for a complete restore then its close enough. How ad are the rear fendrs now?
35.00 was a good deal
The plug is for an optional head light . The blue tape onthe wire is correct from the factory.
Clean the carb real good going through alll the jets with a fine wire (like from a wire brush)
Almost ALL 70 need points, they go bad. If you do not have spark then in might be the points and condenser.

Good Luck

Maybe you'll want to take a small file, and carefully file the points down a little. LOL, eh Bruce!

With all the bikes you have in your garage I'm sure you will have it running/riding in no time!!! Looks like it hasn't been running in a long time. If so don't try to start it. Might cause some piston/sleeve damage. Fill the combustion chamber with atf and let it sit for a week. Then slowly rock the flywheel back and forth. drain the oil. Do a compression test and if its good, set the points. That's what I would do to start.

Nice find. Worth every penny. You might want to find some junk plastics from any other bike and try the plastic restoration ideas found in other threads on this board. (search for "sandpaper")

Looks like it needs a lot of work, but I think it would be a bad little trophy. If it were mine, I'd be tempted to restore it and put it on display in my living room.

(good thing my wife doesn't read this forum :D )

Does anyone know if the recoil starter from a 90 or a 110 fit on the 70

Thanks for the info guys! I appreciate it. Does anyone have a recoil for a 70? PM me thanks! I ordered the tune up kit today, so i have a condensor, plug, and points on the way. I tried spinning the starter pawl? with a rope to check for spark i've got nothing as of now. But I do have continuity through the stator coil. My compression tester doesn't go down to the size of that little baby spark plug but it does blow my finger off the hole with a little pop when i spin the motor. Also does anyone know the name of the liquid I can put in the gastank to eat up the rust? I read about it in another thread but can't find where I read about it. Man I'm at work bored now I want to leave early and go work on it some more! I'll update soon with some more pics.

Nice 90! Curt and I found one of those just west of the intersection of 10 and 131 in Michigan on our way to Baldwin. The guy wanted 1200 for it. It was a yellow 72. It still had the correct tires and all the fenders and tank and stuff looked really nice.

OH and heres a few pics of the carb I opened up. The main jet is growing something on it! I think if I just dust it off it will be good!:naughty: Anyway I should'nt have been so lazy and had the carb kit on the way by now.

Nothing yet I'm waiting on parts. I had the wrong kit sent to me so I'm waiting on the right one to arrive and the carb has soaking in Chem-dip for three days!

Couple of pics hopefully they will work. Every thing not chrome was sandblasted.

Needed a patch or two. Shot the frame with spray-on bedliner. At least for now to see how it holds up.

The black was shot with a aircraft grade polyurethane spray paint. I know it holds up to petroleum products.

I still need to blast the pegs and can't find a seat for a reasonable price. It is winter so I'm not gonna rush it. Plastics ruin it but I had to sit on something to start dialing in the carb and test out the motor.
