Does anyone know how many volts my '85 350X stator should be putting out?
The manual says 200watts @ 5000rpms.
My voltmeter reads ~40AC volts at about half throttle.
My AC regulator blew, and I think this is the second time.

not sure, but your gonna have to get a tester that reads dc volts

I do not know the answer to your question, but I will take a educated guess.

I am assuming that the AC voltage is converted at the regualtor to DC voltage. And that shold be around 17 volts( about half of the AC voltage) and then regulated down to around 14 volts so your bulbs dont blow.
It sounds right to me.

How often are you blowing the regulator? Every few years?
Run over to Tims and grab one, of one of his waterpumpers. They fit the 350X if I remeber right.
If they are blowing frequently,You have the wrong wattage bulbs or bad grounds or harness.

Just guessing,so dont blast me if I am wrong...

When I bought my 350X, there was no regulator on the machine. That led me to believe that the one on it had been bad, and not replaced.

I bought a working regulator on eBay, it lasted for a couple hours (half a ride), and my headlights stopped working - now it is dead.

I am going to buy another regulator, but my fear is that I will hook it up and ruin it too.

Why?

Isn't the current leaving the stator AC Volts? We are getting AC voltage to the regulator (from the stator) - but nothing coming out of the regulator - which would be DC.

I replace bad regulators with a "Volt Pack" ( under $20 ). It's cheap and only needs 2 wires hooked up. ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys. A volt pack is a good option, and I may try one, but I really want to find the root cause first, or I am afraid I will blow that too.

Has anyone else had trouble with 350X AC regulators? My search found nothing.

The regulators seem to go bad over time from my experiance. I have never burned out a volt pack yet. I still haven't gotten your package sent yet ( lots of reasons, but it will be coming soon ). How about if I include a volt pack with the package and see if it works for you? Your bro has the cost info ( via a PM ) and shipping would be free since I can package it with the other item. ;)

Thanks, Howdy. That sounds like an unbeatable deal for me! I will get the cash to you ASAP. I really appreciate your help on this one.
