Had a buddy (more of an acquaintance) that was desperate to sell his 1984 KX125 because he needed some extra money to get some other stuff done. He had just recently rebuilt the top end with a new piston and rings. After that he had trouble getting it started by kick starting it. He pushed started it and it started fine. I figured he didn't properly break in the rebuild so I figured if i bought it I would put new rings on and do a proper break in. After a couple weeks went by i kind for got about it. Then I ran into him and he asked if I still wanted it. I made him an offer and he explained what was wrong and we struck a deal.

Things that are wrong are;

1. It was hard to start because the intake boot has a hole in it.

2.The kickstarter gear must have lost a tooth or more because sometimes when you kick it, it doesn't engage but if you keep working with it, it will engage.

3. The oil seal for the water pump is bad and water get's into the trans oil.

That's it for the bad. The bike is in excellent condition. He has had it forever and he isn't a racer and never beat the snot out of it. The plastics are perfect. No cracks or gouges. Nothing is rusted away. It has been garage kept.

I coated the intake boot with a bunch of plastidip and let it dry overnight. reinstalled it and it fired right up and it runs like a raped ape. Had no problem pulling wheelies in at least 3 gears.

I need to clean it up and touch up a few paint areas but that is it.

I already have the gaskets, seals and bearing ordered for the water pump (will get them next wed) from the local shop.

I gave $200 for the bike. What do you guys think?

Did I get ripped off. I know the parts for this bike will be hard to find, Is that enough to make it not a good deal?

I was just hoping for a little feedback and advice where i can find good parts. I need an intake boot(discontinued). Will newer years cross reference? Here is a pic of me sitting on it.

Either there is something wrong with that front end or the rear shock is toast.

Great score, I payed $200 for my 88 and it ran.

Wish i had a pic before I started restoring it. It was a little ruff. I decided to restore it back to dirtbike. I was going to Try and make a trike out of it.

This is what it looked like.

Looks like an 80 with you on that thingI'm only about 5'9 or so but I weight 250lbs. haha. Hurt my back about a year and a half ago and packed on a bunch of weight. Just now starting to get an exercise program going to get rid of 50+ pounds. The rear shock might be toast anyway. lol
