Hi, I was given a Honda ATC 90 the other day. It is in pretty poor condition probably why I have it. I was wondering if you had to premix the fuel for these machines? What kind of top speed do these machines reach?;)
No premix in an atc 90. Strait gas.
They will do about 40 maybe.

Thanks. I think 40 is more than fast enough for something with a suspension setup like that (absolutely 0:D ). I hope to get it going in the next few weeks .

With a little hopping up they'll do a little more than 45. If you really put some work and money into them, they'.. do a little above 60!!!!!! Without suspension. A real "E"-ticket ride for sure.

What exactly do you mean by "a little hopping up"?

Bigger carb, exhaust, better airfilter, cam, different rear sprocket.
Alot of hopping up would be new frame big bore and higher compression piston, stroker kit, change out the engine cases so no hi/lo gearbox. Different front and rear sprockets. Way bigger carb, way bigger cam, cylinder head work and a couple other little secrets. And spending lots more money. How crazy do you want to get? Now you could probably buy a 3 wheeler with a bigger engine and suspension for the same amount of money and maybe even go faster, but where is the fun in that?????

Sounds like all sorts of fun. I think I will focus on getting it running well first. The next step would be the cosmetics. Then maybe some hot rodding. Anyone ever change the color of plastics and tanks on these old girls? Has anyone changed to different plastics, like a 250r or something like that?

Post some pictures of your ATC90. I had a 73 ATC90 but I parted most of it out.

If you use early fenders, the rear fenders are fiberglass and the front fenders are metal, perfect for repainting, but the front fenders have a tendency to be expensive. Rear fenders aren't too hard to find and often need repaired, but fiberglass is pretty easy to repair. Sometimes you even see aftermarket fiberglass rear fenders pop up. I've been sitting on a set or 2 for awhile. Also some aftermarket people make the front fender in fiberglass so it's not impossible to find. I know a guy now makes the 70 fenders in fiberglass and I'm thinking he might be making the 90 fenders too, but I'm not sure. Then all you really need is to find a good metal tank, which is getting tougher everyday. You will probably end up finding one with some dents in it and maybe some light rust. You can coat the inside of the tank for the rust and you have to find someone to do the body work on the metal and you should be okay, just make sure they don't plug the fuel lines. There are plastic repro tanks available and plastic rear fenders, but I wouldn't recommend painting them. Also you can find later model aftermarket plastic front fenders, so if you don't really mind red, white or blue you can have a set of new fenders and a new tank in plastic.

as far as top speed on a stock 90 your talkin about 25-30 MAYBE difinately do not do 40, the only way to have power with these is use low range and then you can only do 15-20mph.

There isn't much to see right now. The tires are trashed and the handlebars and headlight are wreaked. When I start getting it together I'll post some photos.

Hey man, it's about the journey. We've all started with beaters of one sort at one time or another. I've got trikes that were put together with nothing but a pile of parts and just started with a frame. My trikes aren't show trikes by far, just decent riders. You have what you have.
