I did a little bit of horse trading with my brother and ended up with this pretty nice '85 250ES Big Red.It's pretty nice but it does have some issue also.the main thing is the rear end ,when you ride it ,the rear end pop's really bad, kinda like the diff is catching every rotation.there's small piece's of metal in there ,i'm suspecting a gear is broke. It also has a bent axle on the right side.I also have another Big Red I picked up awhile back that's pretty rough cosmetically but mechanicaly it's really nice.Yesterday I started taking them both apart ,and going thru the good and the bad part's.I have so far took the complete rear end off the '85 I just got and am gonna work on getting the good rear end off the one I got awhile back.I should have that completed sometime today, and then I have the front end too work on.I also looked and I have a good rear diff, from an '85 SX,So I am thinking I'll switch out the bad ES diff with the good SX diff, like Swinehart did on his BR.

On the ES I just got I noticed that someone had an orange wire running threw the eletrical system. After I check it out a bit more I noticed that it look's like brake light's too me.I never had seen that set-up on a machine before,I'm pretty sure that's what it is..What do you's think?? Pic's are from both machine's ,for comparrison..

I'll post up some more pic's of the swap when I get too each part.So far it's been pretty easy, other than the rear end pivot's being rusty.Oh the Big Red I just got has a sticker on the case from Hayden Honda in Kendallville ,Indiana, anybody know where that is ??

that is for sure a brake light set up. Roger, I seen 2 84 BRs local that had some kind of light kit on them - both looked the same - and had:

turn signals, brake lights speedos - and horns. they had a bike cluster added to the bars as well. I wonder if someone used to offer a kit or something?

Roger does this mean you will be cruising on a big red and not the big bad 600 on you ride next year?:)

Tim I don't remember brake light kit's for the ATC's,but who know's.i would'nt doubt they had something, even the turn signal's like you say.Kurt I ain't exactly hanging up the 600 to dry,but it's nice to have a slow cruiser in the stable also.i've had a few Big Red's and alway's liked em'.I get this machine done up I could get rid of the TRX 250 then,it's got one too many tire's.

I'll deffinatly be keeping the rear brake light's,anybody have info on if they had brake light kit's,now or back in the day.
