I took my YT175 out today for about 10 minutes. It was bogging like crazy and did not want to rev out in higher gears. I took back in and when I shut it off, I could see smoke rising off the cylinder head like it got really hot. Is it likely my oil pump failed? What's the easiest way to check it?

If I just blocked the oil line going from the tank to the engine could I just run premix instead?

Thanks

Thanks, Man.

Is there a way to check the pump to be sure? Would low compression test tell me if I destroyed the top end?

Most oil pumps fail wide open, so it will run extremely rich, Very few go the other way, a way to check your oil pump is an output test, There will be a specific range of output for a given time in the manual, normally in cc's (a syringe works good), another thing to check is to see if there is any Air in the lines them selfs, from the tank to the pump, and from the pump to where it is injected, also make sure your Vent on the tank is not plugged, some have actual lines, some are in the oil tank caps themselfs, Make sure to run pre-mix for above said test, and to just run straight pre-mix you would have to block the line from the pump to the motor,

No, I didn't bleed the oil lines before I ran it...

Let me get this straight. If I just plug the lines and add premix I'll be ok, correct?? I don't have to disconnect the pump so it won't continue to run?

Thanks again for the info

Yea just plug the one from the pump to the injector spot, drain your oil lines and tank, so it wont try and force it through,
