My brother has an ATC 200x. About 5 years ago he took the engine out of the frame and put it in our work shop. he tried to take apart the engine because it needed piston rings. He took the top of the head part off but couldn't go any farther because he couldn't remove the timing chain or w/ not. It has been sitting with the top on but not concealed. I looked around an theirs no rust in the top of the head. Still oily to be exact. Is it worth fixing and putting back in the trike?

Also all the engine mounts and hardware have been lost? Since I don't know much about how to replace piston rings, what would I be able to do?

I believe its an 85.

Regarding missing parts... First generation 200x (83-85) parts are easy to come by. So getting the missing parts is not a problem. You should also get a manual. That will help.

Oh yeah get some parts and put that baby back together. We will help you if you have questions, post pic's and what not. Someone here has a link to the manual for your bike, I downloaded it but don't have the link anymore.

Yeah the chasis is in pretty nice shape actually. I will post pictures tomorrow. So doing the piston rings isn't tough? I have no experience taking an engine apart. Is it gonna kill me?

My first top end was a 200e and i managed to do it on top of a wash machine in the garage with ply wood on it lol only thing that stumped me for awhile was i put the cdi in 180 degrees off and it wouldnt even back fire or nothin i was freakin out till i finaly figured it out . the timing marks are easy to figure out too.if its the same engine .

just make shure you turn the motor over slowly by hand and if it seems tough dont force it and check make shure your timign is on right
but probably as simple as they come.
