View Full Version : 1985 200x build up!

This will be a ground up build. I bought a 1983 200x about three years ago for $150 but I'm using mostly parts I've collected since then and not many of the 1983 parts for this build. The frame is a 1985 that I picked up pretty much free, swinger is a 1984, shock is 85, pegs are 85 so I'm calling it a 85. The motor, axle and few small pieces will end up being the only things I use off the original 1983.

It will have the 250r front fender, Bassani exhaust (unless somebody wants to trade me a nice supertrapp), 250r tires, 300ex hubs, stainless bolt kit. The colors will be red, white and black instead of blue. Motor will be mildly modded. Nothing extreme. I just want a pimped out rider. I have other trikes for going fast.

Everything is/will be powdercoated. The only spray paint used will be hi temp for the exhaust and motor. The powder is just about finished. I have a few more things that need to get done but here is where I'm at right now.

You can see it in the background in the last pic. Needs to be blasted and painted, rebuilt with a 10.25:1 piston, new seals, MAYBE a cam (depends on what I can get a deal on).

I haven't decided which set of bars I want to use yet. One is OEM either 200x, 250r or 350x (not really sure where I got them anymore). The other I got off a 1986 Tecate.

All I can say is it's about time!

Edit: Hey.. what's the story with that swinger bolt? OEM or a custom job? I'm having a heck of a time keeping mine tight. (even with a lockwasher and loctite). I'd like to have a custom one made with a hole on the threaded end for a cotter pin or something???

Looking good. Are you putting tapered bearings in the stearing column ?

Looks great!!!! Keep the Bassani, I have one on the 1983 200x that I built, and It is probably my favorite. I have had them all over the years on different 200x's, the Bassani performs great and sounds nice and deep toned, unlike the Cobra which in my opinion is the loudest. I have had three Supertrapps (1 steel,2 aluminum) they would be my second choice. And the DG that I had would be my third, Cobra at the bottom. Just my unprofessional opinion.:lol:

Chris: yeah it's a SS swinger bolt courtesy of Yamahondaman. And yeah it is about time.

Rookie: Yes it's getting tapered steering bearings. Races are already installed.

No serious updates yet. Got a set of forks and triples off ebay for fifteen bucks (local seller so no shipping). The forks I was going to use are pretty rough so it was a good find. I needed a new steering stem so that's good now also. I need to find a good set of OEM Honda rear rims. 250r, 400ex, 450r or whatever. Just looking for a sweet deal on a set. I have some Douglas wheels for it but they're blue labels and won't hold up in the desert. After I find the wheels I'll be taking them in for powdercoat along with the forks and shock spring. I plan on taking the rear axle in for plating soon also. Not much I can do with it until then. I'll probably put the parts away for a little while longer. I need some room in the garage to get some work on the R and 350x done. Scored a 1983 110 for the gf to play around on recently that needs some work too.

This thing is and always has been a super slow build. It's at the bottom of the totem pole priority wise. As long as I keep taking my sweet time with it I won't end up rushing anything and it will get done the way I want it. I have every confidence that it will be the baddest looking 200x on here when it's done. :naughty:

Lookin good! An 83-85 will prob be my next trike (well after I score a decent 350). I had an 86200x, but parts were just to scarce, I guess thats why I switched from Z's to R's. (and of course Sprock and Yamahondaman are makin all this cool Z stuff now, just my luck, lol). I thought about an auto-x also. Shelly (Atctims wife) had a nice auto-x with electric start, (and ghetto horn) that I really liked. Take your time and keep up the good work and I'm sure you will be pleased with the outcome.
