Honda 200s electrical question...

I cut the headlight fixture off the front, so I could take it down to the automotive place and get a bulb. Meanwhile, I had finally got the chain and sprockets on the trike, and cranked it up, it idled just fine, but if i went to rev it real fast, it would die out, and when I tried to turn the trike off, the off button wouldn't respond..

My question is, does the headlight fixture complete the electrical 'circuit' for the trike? And is that the reason my CDI and power controls aren't working?

what year 200s is it 84 or 85. the wiring is different. ive got some wiring diagrams here that will help
