Alright I kinda confused. Don't you guys think that the '85 200X is different enough than the '83-84 to be considered a different generation? They have a different color scheme, and I thought they have more fork rake, too.(?) Just wondering because of the unusual circumstances that warranted Honda to not make bikes in the usual two-year format. Didn't they do this with the 250R's also?

No, the 1983-1985 are defiantly the same generation. I think the biggest change came in '84 when Honda switched swing arm styles. I don't think changing the paint color is warrant for a different generation.
The R's did follow a 2 year format but those were also built for competitive racing so they had to be kept current. Not all trikes followed the 2 year plan... the 70, 90, 110, 200s....

Only two gens. 83-85 and 86-87. I believe the 83 had a round swingarm, and 84-85 had box type. And no two consecutive 250r's were really even the same. Lots of yearly changes. But...... they had 3 distinct generations.

I dunno, looking at the pictures on the Honda ATC brochure site, it kinda looks like the fork is at a different angle to the ground, but in the specs it has the same length as the '84 so it must just be an illusion. I agree with you Fox that cosmetic changes aren't enough to make it a different gen. Reminds me a slogen used by Porsche(I think): Evolution, not revolution.
