Why dont you guys post up some links to some parts that most might think are discontinued. The more orders we can get in for this stuff, the longer they will possibilly be offered.

Really? Cause they stopped making the Honda Pilot fenders and told me they make batches when they can get orders of 50 or more.

Now they are making the fenders again.

Never hurts to ask the people at Honda. I had to call Hillside Honda and after a few days me and few owners got this message: "If you can get a order of 50 or more in, we will make them again". Took a month and we were good to go.

EDIT, here was the actual response:

".first the good news..the fenders will definitely be made, once the required 50 fronts and rears are ordered..
now for the bad..the price for the front fender has jumped to $155.00 because of production costs plus a MINIMUM of 20% manufacturing surcharge//the rear fender price is at this point still $118.00, but will also have a MIMIMUM 20% manufacturing charge added to the price..I asked Martin about the increase in price and his answer was simply" that is what the fenders will cost""

If they aren't new, they aren't very old... You can tell by the packaging and part number label markings. A OEM part usually has an old faded and oddly marked parts number label....

I think Honda makes allot of our parts, and there the ones that are in demand......

On another note...... When I asked a Honda parts guy "do they ever remake a discontinued part??" - he hymmed and hawwed.... and said "well, they did it for the Honda Pilot front fenders because there was such a demand."

So - I asked about "what if......." - long story short, he said if we had a given ATC item that 50 of us wanted that we should contact and write American Honda. with a well written letter and signatures.

Who knows.........................

DC- Its not too bad when people have to send the money first. Thats what we did, it only took a month to find enough but think about how many pilots are out there.

If they have the molds, and you can supply a demand they want, you as good as gold =)

I haven't seen many things discontinued for the tri-z. I did however notice yamaha has shy'd away from there "green" plating process. They are now all "zinc" plated. BOOOOOOOOOO on there part!!

Oh and one more thing, plastics are all us Pilot owners have had reproduced. The radiator cover, side panels and plastics have all been raised from the "dead"

There is a guy that helped us the whole way, so yeah it wasnt too great. Joe at service honda was the best help.

I just checked at the honda dealer today for all new nos plastic for the 85 350X. Should hear back tomorrow!

By the way, the left front and rear fender was disco for 2 years BEFORE we had them revived and then another year we needed more....

If one of you wants to make out a deal, I can call Joe and see if any rears for the 86+ trikes can be made, I have to say that once you send your money, you HAVE to wait until the rest do and then a small amount after for Honda to produce and ship them. I dont have a trike except for my project 250sx, but I know some of you guys would be interested... hell is there even enough people for the 350x and 200x that want new fenders?

Tony, sorry to say but the main problem is that by the time you see that a part has been discontinued it is usually far too late to reverse or delay the decision. When a part comes up to be discontinued it is probably because the demand has not been sufficient to support a re-order, materials are no longer available or new molds/dies are needed due to wear, breakage or supplier changes.

The thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of dollars that the new molds/dies cost must be justified by future sales projections. Additionally, production, transportation and warehousing costs must not only be covered but be a business benefit in comparison to all the other parts that could be taking that space. So when you asked for new fenders, Honda said no. After some personal negotiation and show of support from past and present for the new fenders, it was done. The price increase was to support a new mold and reproduction costs.

Order activity while the part is active is what will extend it’s life . Think about this, when you asked why the cranks and rings for the 350 odyssey were no longer made, it is because for 20+ years they showed a minimal to zero demand. Now that those parts have worn out in these 25 years bigger orders came in and once it made enough to cover production costs, the parts were reproduced in a normal run. Mass orders after a decision is made to discontinue is unlikely to have any effect. Remember that to the people making these decisions, it’s not a fender for your favorite toy, it’s just another of almost a million part numbers that they deal with on a daily basis. Remember Tony, Honda was not motivated to make 400 more fenders; it took personal awareness, intervention and over 7 months.

It's a nice idea but never going to happen.....the only reason some of the pilot plastic came back from disco is because the injection molds are in the USA nearly all the molds for atc's where Japan only where most of them were scrapped back in the day......only bike Honda make plastics for now is the 85-86R and the 85-88 big red which again the moulds are in the states and pretty sure they not made any since 2003..

What about the short track tank and shrouds along with the 350x rears? I think that is where we could get a lot of people to jump on the bandwagon. Short track tanks kits go for big money if you can even find one. I would be interested in that!

Yeah, my 85 is all white so I can live with a white one but if it was still red like an 85 should be then I don't know what I'd do. But I really want a white one.

I'm SURE he is doing the best he can.....

I believe he was having difficulties finding thick plastic and thats what may have caused some previous headaches. He may be having trouble getting the right shade and thickness of the red he'd like to offer..... He is located overseas ya know and plastic is nothing small and shipped easily.....

I'm psyched that he's got the white and black hdlight shrouds and look forward to seeing how they hold up. 3MM's is about 1/8th inch thick which should be sweet!

I know there was a member here that had bought a sheet or so of red for him awhile back but that member could not get a hold of aussie, or so he had said....

I thought he was only doing tank shrouds and that headlight plastics were out of the question because of the mounting pillars inside that the lenses screw into. Looks like he must have found a way to get it done! That's friggin' great!
