I have a 1985 honda 70. It is needing a top end rebuild. DrAtv has several different kits avaliable. I would like the 88cc kit with the cylinder and piston and do the head and cam later, I really don't have $400 right now. Does anybody have any experience with any of these from Dr.Atv. I would order the 88 cc bore up kit from sterdy, but its out of stock. I am leaning towards what Dr.atv calls the correct kit with head cam cylinder piston and gaskets for $239.00. Any advice on what you have done would be great.

for my '85 70 it had a z50 engine on it (same as 70 only smaller piston/bore), i bought the $99 88cc cylinder kit from dratv, i used a 70 head on it and it worked great, i don't see why that wouldn't work for you... and $99 isn't bad for a new cylinder, piston, rings and top end gasket set!
the one thing i think that might not let it work for a OG 70 engine is the 70 and 50 engines have different rods.
this is the 88cc kit i bought...

just figured i'd put this out there, someone may know for sure if it will work or not with the OG 70 rod, i know for a fact it works with an OG 70 head and the OG 70 carb, exhaust, etc... it has ALOT of power now...
here is a pic of the engine after i finished it...

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I am going with the 88 cc bore up kit and try to get the head and carb later. If I just get the 88 cc cylinder and piston, is there any rejetting that needs to be done?

Hey, Dude!!
Don't I know you? lol Big bore kit!! I love it. But you really need to add just a little more cc's to it. Like greenhuman's little power plant.

But then it would be over powered for the kid. hehe

i didn't have to rejet, i'm using the stock internals on the 70 carb, i did do a carb rebuild though - it was a bit difficult to get it adjusted right at first, i was setting the pilot and idle screws to stock 70 settings, it would run fine but couldn't get the idle down at all, i ended up having to turn out the pilot at least 4 to 5 turns more than stock before i could get any adjustment out of the idle screw, once i figured that out, it was simple to tune it and idle it down... and i've had a blast ever since!
