I am picking this up for a song and dance. Seriously you guys would be pissed if I told how how little i was getting it for.

what year is it? it looks like an air only cooled, but I could be wrong.

Guy says clutch is slipping, but that's ok I can replace that and do a motor rebuild. What ya think? Please be honest on what you think of it.

What's also cool is that it looks like it may have some goodies - wish you had bigger and more pics - but I can spot an old school DG boost bottle and a vented front fender (maier) on there all ready!

Guess we should expect you over at airfoolers.com soon?!

Seriously - go-buy-now! Especially if your getting it cheap.

It's not an 83 - look at the tank. it's 100% an 81 or 82.

Yeah 81 or 82. Check the rear brakes for confirmation - if it has drum brakes it is a first year 81 - if it has disk brakes it is an 82. Nice looking from what I can see in the picture.

also - the 81 came with 3 lug rims, 82 had 4 lugs. But that could be all changed if the owner swapped hubs.

What are you getting it for??? I traded an old ice auger for mine. If you've never ridden one before, better be prepared! Its got a bit more power than those 4 strokes you got. :naughty: I love mine.

Its a 1982 model. you can tell by the black chain slider on the swing arm. 81 had a white teflon style. Also it has the air scoops on the frame in front of the gas tank. 81 did not have those.

$150. ;) sound like a good deal? this is one of the trikes i plan to keep and restore once i get it. compelte motor rebuild (not worried about hopping it up much) and restore. i'll probebly eventually do a frame up restore on it.

i have to wait till mid jan. he's outta town right now. i take it the $150 is worth the price?Yep, pick it up. It will be a challenge to find some parts and restoring or even simply rebuilding isn't always very easy but that is part of the fun. That is a piece of history and it is worth your $150 and some effort.

By the way, never set a price for yourself when it comes to fixing it up. You'll get addicted and dump more into it then you originally plan. It always happens. haha:naughty:

yup it runs, the clutch slips so looks like a new set of clutchs and cleaning out the bottom end while in there. (goes through gears fine clutchs just worn so use some flush to clean the bottom end and stuff)

but i figure being origional it's probebly gonna need a top end rebuild at minimum and some work on the head.

When did you learn how to ride lol?! You gotta get on the trike to know how to ride it! And the garage is CLEAN and spaceful again. everything went into the shed and all the siding is now on the house!:)

i have confirmationform the guy. I will have that 250r in my driveway next sat afternoon!!!!! I'll meet him halfway and get it form him. I'm going to hide it in the shed for now and in the spring, work on it to restore it. (gotta hide from wifey cause she will have a poop fit!) i'm going to do a frame up redo on it. yup doing it right! Gonna add weiso performance piston, performance reeds, get it ported out some, and see if i can locate a good hondaline performance pipe for it. Then install performance clutches and replace all cables and pads. basic stuff from there.

Should I repaint the motor after blasting like it was when new, or leave it alloy color? (don't want to powder coat the engine as it will hold in heat). I am concerned about painting will cause it to hold in more heat than needed. I'm thinking of getting the jug and head and cover polished to prevent rust and allow for good cooling w/o causing heating issues.

thoughts?

Unless you're at sea, alluminium won't be rusting.

welp, it's an 82 per the vin sticker. SWEET! well it's all pretty much there. it runs and drives and shifts fine, just needs a new clutch and lots of TLC alogn with fixing the rear fnders, new front fender, and a new seat.
what year seats fit the 82 250r?
I also forgot to mention. the guy did a rebuild on the top end he said about 6 "riding" hours ago. He said he used a bottle hone to clean it up and put in a new piston. he feels liek it has good compression. needs a carb rebuild BAD! and seat oh and a silencer. anyone got one of them for cheap?

it's an airfooler bro! You got a piece of history there man. Congrats!

Now build that baby up and get over too airfoolers.com with us!!

btw - you'll need a seat/seatpan from an 81/82 R - thats all that will fit.

oscarmayer

only 81-82? dang! know where i can get one for a cheapy deal? i ws going to redo the carb, clutch, and the seat and just ride it for a bit till I got the $ to redo it.
I figure I'll have about $850 or so into it when i complete the project. I'll drop in a weisco higher comp piston (1mm over), get it ported, performance CF reeds(heard they last way longer) for starters, i will get a sandbalster and blast the frame top to bottom, clean the welds(reweld if needed or fix cracks) and check them for any damages, straighten up any bent mountings, and then using tap clean any threads ont he frame. when that's done, prime and paint it honda red again.
