View Full Version : Winter Trail Riding in NH - January 3rd -

Looks like they opened the gates for Bear brook but pawtuckaway is closed until they get the trees cleared from the trails. If you look hard enough, you can find the weekly trail conditon updates from the web.
I got friday off next weekend and am thinking of hitting the groomed trails at bear brook - allenstown NH - just north of manchester. Or maybe Saturday..... I was working on getting the tecate started last night and should be ready for next weekend for ride time.
Any interest? Trails are fast and fun with one nice big jump-sand hill to play on. stickers would be good, but you guys are adults.
Next week might be my only time to do this. If no interest, i will most likely go by myself for 1/2 day romp...:)
Pawtuckaway is better but we will do that ride later in the winter to let the lake freeze and trees cleared.

Next saturday, i can go riding...
Just got the tecate started yesterday. Needs alot of double checks to get it somewhat reliable. I also need to mount some tires to get the R ready to move in the snow.

U guys think i can get a sticker at Keene motorsports? How much are they for out-of-staters?
brrcuda
12-27-2008, 04:32 PM
pretty much any motorcycle shop will issue a sticker. 72 last time i knew for out of staters. they dont take credit for some reason though. If you are in a bind - let me know, i can help you out jeff.
Keep an eye on the weather. Im ready for a nice cruize......
they dont take credit for some reason though.
Each place that sell registrations is issued a box buy the state of NH. This is for collections of all money paid for registration. It goes directly to parks and trail service to maintain trails.

Nah, it's too nice for the snow. I really want to preserve the R. I also don't have any other rear wheels other than what's on it and those wouldn't move an inch in the snow. I've been riding the 110 alot lately. I'll take that out if you guys feel like waiting up for me and if I don't make it on my sledding trip. I was riding it in that snowstorm we got all night long. The sleds were wasting me, but the guy on the TRX 125 couldn't hang with the 'ol ATC 110!:TrikesOwn

4-7 inches expected on Wednesday Night. So sounds like conditions will be good for some snow riding.
There will probably be a good amount of sleds since its a holiday weekend. We should give em a nice show with a few trikes in a row.
Trails are like hiways - groomed extra wide. I think its like 30 miles loop. We usually do it twice and hit the side trails. A nice big sand hill for some jump pics too.

12-30-2008, 10:34 AM
I would love to join you guys. They are also predicting 8"+ Friday night now. I do not have a lot of experiance snow riding with trikes. These are the two options for me to ride.
Neither have stickers. Think I will need them if I go??
brrcuda
12-30-2008, 12:15 PM
Well they are state operated trails. Thats the only reason i say to get a sticker. You get two stickers - i only run one and save the other for a spare just in case.
Its only a visual inspection. Once they see the sticker - they leave you alone.
Update - tecate is pouring gas out the exhaust - time for a new carb, so that will not be going to bear brooke.
Will most likely take the 250r then - douche at the motorcycle shop wouldnt swap my tires for me today, so might be riding the duros for this one....

12-30-2008, 12:21 PM
Well, sounds like I should get registered first, one sticker for each bike... Still not sure what bike would be better to ride in snow?

There is only one parking lot for bear brook. Do a mapquest or checkout NHATV for trail maps. If that doesnt work, let me know.
Take rt3N from Hooksett NH to rt 28 and follow signs for parking. There is also a kawi powersports dealer in hooksett if anyone is looking for a sticker.
I am psyched for this ride - need to figure out my tire situation though.

RUN IT...... I dont understand why your tecate cant run these trails even setup for ice? Just studs rights....
You can ride with Deepa in the back of the pack. :)
Well the R just stopped running in the middle of the road on me. So i got to fix both bikes now. Im hoping its just ice or sand in carb. I havent started it since the last ride at vending boys in nov. and why did i sell my 350x? oh yeah to look cool on a tecate.....
Otherwise it looks like i will be riding in flat track duros, so i will be a little slow too. Unless i can find an actual moto shop that wants my business....

12-31-2008, 04:58 PM
I can't run the Tecate because I studded my only good front tire and haven't yet gotten a replacement and it's lowered and I don't wanna raise it back up. I know, I'm lazy. Will I have time that morning to reg. my 110? What do I need for doccumentation?

I was figuring on arriving at 9:30 am anyways.
Update on the tecate - I GIVE UP............................ Its back to the R for me this ride.
I got a set of sur tracks - just need to run one gold and one silver rim, but i save 40 bucks doing that. Thanks for the offers though guys...

my threewheeler is in perfect shape ( in my opinion) for a rider and i know if i ride it i will destroy it.i know i sound like edog but i ride way to hard and aggresive and just cant see destroying my threewheeler. its more of an investment to me at this point. i take it out a couple times a year to make sure shes lubed. what are you riding?

I have two bikes currently (well 3 including my daughters ALT50) One is 110 bored to a 125CC, bigger carb, cam, exhasut and all the goodies. It runs really strong, built it for my camp. The GPX is my main bike. Not sure if you have read about the builduo by edog and continued from me?
I had a 2002 Sportsman 500 H.O. with all the goodies. Lift kit, clutch kit, winch, plow, etc... Sold it last year because it sat so much. I enjoy the trikes better and they are way eaiser to maintian. Not to mention lighter.

Edog's bike is pretty unique. Build very well. I just had to put the finishing touches on it. It's like riding a hardtail 200X.. but faster. Very torquey. Next year I am going to change the frame out to a Joker or Bandito racing frame.

I will be leaving for most of the day today but will check in later tonight. Anyone need directions? We can meet at the parking lot off Rt28 (follow signs to bear brook SP) or we can meet up in hooksett near HK powersports.. let me know if your lost, but others know the way too if i dont get back til late tonight.. They can chime in to help as well.
Bring enough gas for 2 fill ups... You'll use it.

OK - so we meet up at bear brook. Deepa, fabiodriven and myself to represent the "big 3" 2 strokes for a nice winter ride. Weather was awesome and trails were nice and easy to fly through. Some real icy spots that at anytime you could lose it.
I love looking back and seeing a tecate and tri-z cruising with me..
Deepa crash? uuuuummmmm, i didnt see anything....:wondering
We had to end the day early due to some tri-z issues after blasting hall mountain trail a few times - see vids...

ive been wanting to do that anyways....i think the top end is fine, i think somethign went in the clutch side...or pull the flywheel and check out the stator
DeePa

well pulled the flywheel and the stator came loose, went and torqued it down, still no spark, so i have to throw a spare stator in there the hope it works...too cold out today, ill do that the day before the next ride...

hey Mike, does your garage have a door directly to the house, or is it detached? Never noticed,, If it's detached, you should look into a torpedo heater or a propane heater of some sorts.. My landlord has one and it throws some good heat

you knicked the coils. I did it on my tri-z too. I hate those phillips head screws that hold that stator plate - they come loose....
I think you can still buy the coils from yamaha and solder them in - fixed.

i have a spare stator hanging around. Throw that in there and see what happens. New coils are 60, 90, and 120 from service honda haha...jesus christ yamaha sucks...
I got out CHEAP haha...
i have an electric and propane heater. Just too lazy to get them all set up, they are up in the loft and i avoid that at all costs...

i have a rebuilt engine for ya!! just sitting in my celler waiting for someone who needs it!!
i know where you can get those coils rewound. should be cheaper than serivce honda, he can probably wire them for more watts also.
i got me a propane heater for my shed. they work damn good. i don't have to work out in the cold anymore! plus i get the propane for cheap

well teh tri-z is all fixed. Stator coil was all beat up, prob gonna get it rewound for my baja lights....
on this other stator, i must have dropped a case on it cause some of the coils are beat up in one spot, but she runs fine so itll have to do...i know of another stator somewhere but he refuses to give it up without a fight...
Dropped the main one size and pilot one side, idles a lot better, but it still bogs in the mid, though its fine low and high...gotta mess with the needle some more and get it tuned up for ptuckey09

mike, gary;'s father has a transmision shop if you need someone to look at your truck. his shop isn't far from me. he had the same truck you have in there the other day with the tranny pulled.
