Just wondering what you guys are running for sprockets on your thumpers. I got the stockers on mine, 13-40. I find it to be a bit slow, even in tight trails it usually wont see the granny first gear. Looking around at a few catalogs, i dont really see many options for a smaller rear sprocket, maybe im just not looking in the right places. Putting a bigger front on is not an option unless i want to toss the case saver, (not going to happen, my case has never been hit by a chain and i plan on keeping it that way). So does anyone have like a 37 or 38 tooth on theirs? And where did you get it? Oh, and mines a 86 model, i think they are different from the 85.

my 350x is in a quad but i run 14-36 with 18''tires...if i had a torque motor i would run 15-37.

250r, 400ex, 450r, 250x, 300ex and maybe more all use the same rear sprocket....that will help find a tooth count you like.

bump...so 13 40 is stock...

with a 37 rear with 20 in tires...and a ported motor, cam, valve springs, 11:1 piston, 37mm carb, and barnett clutch springs...what would be the right sprocket for the front?

I think 15/37 would be right...but 15 tooth means no sprocket guard case saver right?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the 86 250r have the same front sprocket as the 86 350x?

EDIT: also....my new chain was cut for 14/40 gearing on a stock swinger... apparently the new swinger is +2.5...meaning my brand new chain is worthless right?

i'd start with a 14 on the front....15t is fine with 18'' tires if you have a torque motor (cam) .

if you can get lucky and fine someone like me who orders there chains long and cuts them down you could always just add a section to your short chain.

nothing wrong at all with having 2 master links and to run different gearing in the past i had a short chain thati would just change the added peice to work with my gearing.

I run 14-40 (pretty sure both years stock was 13-40) and I bet I could drop the rear 2 teeth for a bit more topend speed. I do like this gearing with my mods and 20" tires though. I don't need anymore topend in reality.......

GOAT-

Yes, 15 teeth means no sprocket saver at all which is not worth the risk IMO.

And I'd run 1 master link or 10, rather than 1 half link as I finally managed to snap mine in half on the 200X and if I weren't home, it would have been a nasty situation!
