I have a few questions with these two motors
- do they have the same cdi boxes?
- does the yamaha mx 175 engine bolt into the trimoto 175 frame with no mods?
- can you put a yamaha trimoto 175 topend on the yamaha mx 175 bottom end?

The reason why I am asking all these questions is because the bottom end went out on my trimoto and I didn't like the semi auto trans and it would be alot better if it was a standard trans with a kick start ( I am willing to cut the rear fenders for the kickstart to work):TrikesOwn

You should check out Pro Tec 175 Beginning by Vealmonkey. You might be able to find some anwers there plus the build up is just sweet.

I can tell you this. I have an mx175 sitting in a yt175 right now with no mods for the engine mounts. I have noticed the front sprocket on the mx175 sits closer to the frame than the yt175, so I don't know if I can switch the yt front sprocket and sprocket collar or not. Also there is no front mount on the mx175 engine for the foot brake cable. Other than that, the piece on the front of the yt175 cylinder for the exhaust pipe hook up will bolt right onto the mx175 cylinder and the gear shifter bolts right on no problem. The yt175 and the mx175 share pretty much the same electrics. But the key is you have to have a 79 or newer mx175 for this to work. The earlier engines will not bolt up to the yt175. The mx175 has a slightly different carb, but you can hook up the yt175 choke cable to the carb with no mods or you can use the pull choke at the carb of the mx175. I'm working on an aftermarket front end for the yt175 right now, then I will see what is going on with the front sprocket. It shouldn't be too terribly hard to modify a bracket for the foot cable mounting either.

Since you say 79 or newer engines would work, does that mean the IT 175 would work also? They seem to be a little more plentiful around here.

I can't find enough info on an it175 engine. I wish I had one to tear apart. How cheap and plentiful are they your way? If I could pick one up for less than $100, I would surely tear one down and see what I could find out.

Thanks for the info it could be my next project if i can find the 1979 or newer mx 175 bottom end. The protec suspension setup looks pretty cool.
