Hey guys thought i'd share with ya a cool project we did here in the shop. We own an aircraft engine shop specializing in antique radial engines. We mainly do the little continental and lycoming engines. This project is an original Continental W-670 cut away engine, that was used for training the mechanics during WW2.
We recieved the engine in a trade 3-4 years ago and decided to restore it this winter. The engine is fully functional with an electric drive motor attached to the back. Pretty cool little piece of history that we came across and it turned out beautiful!

That thing is nasty!!

I always wondered.... Do those segments get cut out on a band saw and then cleaned up with a mill?? Or how is it done so that the working parts are exposed??

Nice work!!

Thanks guys. This one was completely cut with a mill, no bandsaw work here that we can tell. It is very very impressive knowing the date on it was from 1943 and done manually.
Hey Danold what kind of engines are ya working on there at school?
