I'm in the process of rebuildin a 82 250r of mine and cant decide on what to do with my motor. I think I'm going to run my 300 top end but it needs a resleeve, though I do know where another 300 kit is minus a piston. I know am pissin in the wind tryin to find a head for my mugen cylinder but I would like to run it. I'd like to put a fl350 cylinder on but im still indecisive on cutting cases and all that fun stuff. Another option is a cr480 swap but I'm havein trouble findin a motor. The way I'm seeing it is that its gonna cost a nice chunk of change to do any of these engine combos so I'm open to suggestion. I dont mind the stock 250 cylinder with all goodies on it, but I am wanting to be able to wax the floor with the the 396x my buddy is buildin. what do you guys think?

Here is a brand new 300R kit for auction on ebay. It says it's for an 83 not sure if it fits 82. But it will be a chunk of change.

Yes that will fit the first gen. 250R.. Its only 50cc's but man they they realy rip!!!! 200xman had one on his fat tire R and it freakin flew.. That one on ebay is at a REALY good price for a complete NOS 300 kit.. Ive seen them go for a grand.. I just sold my 300 cylinder and head for $125 due to the fact of not being able to get pistons, and the hole having it resleeved idea turns me off.. By the time you have it resleeved buy the piston rings and what have ya, you'll be pretty colse to to the cost of this NOS kit.. I think the guy that does the resleeve set up for these also has to cut the cylinder down too due to the new piston being shorter..

What piston fits the 300 kit? I thought there was one available? I would love to do a 300 kit on mine. IT seems like around here the air cooled R's get no respect, hardly anyone has them and when people hear about them they don't think much of them, like they are a kids bike or something. I want to show them the potential of them. I've got a sectional pipe for mine that I have not installed yet.

shawn, I tried talkin to 1upfront the other day, but Im still waiting on a reply. Anyone have any other suggestions? Also, anyone know who can do a good job resleeving the 300 kit I have now and making a piston work in it?

why do you people wet yourself when a 300 is for sale...THEY CAN STILL BE PURCHASED...geez
contact LA sleeve, they don't cost that much. a new sleeve and piston...done.
when you call them, they refer you to someone else...if memory serves correct. the third party does all the work.

Well if I want I can put CR500 engine in my 250R. If I want I can put a YZ490 engine in my TRI-Z. The fact is an NOS Hondaline bolt on kit will bring alot of money, it's convenient and don't forget the cool factor.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the importance of nos...
I don't understand when people spend big bucks on a worn out 300r kit when a new one is still out there to be purchased. Also... Aircooled guy did request another source.
Buying the best is one thing, buying an inferior product that has less support (meaning lack of pistons) for more money... That's a whole new animal.

Love the engrish doublespeak on the manual:
"This kit is the product of research and development aimed at responding to wide-ranging requirements from customers who feel that there is something lacking in the parts of the ATC250RD to customers who are thinking of racing at a high competitive level.
With this kit the torque is increased with all speeds from low to high without impairing the drivability and comfort of the currently popular 250R and, as such, the kit is designed to provide total satisfaction."

lol...I'd say it impairs the drivability a little...especially if you were to throw a high rev pipe on that beast and maybe a lighter flywheel.
they are very...snappy.

Anyone notice it is also in Germany w $89 shipping?
Wow you'd seriously spend $1500 on a 300 kit? Shopping smart would get a liquid r and some goodies for that much. I love air foolers and all but damn, you must really love them!

I don't want a Liquid R. Not at this stage.

The only people bidding now are those who don't intend to win.
I'd like to bet my five dollars that thisthing gets relisted because of a deadbeat bidder.

It requires the same case machining to run the mugen cylinder as it does the odyssey jug.

Goat, sorry but I cant part with my fourtrax. That is my first 4wheeler. I was started out good though, I was started out on an atc70 right before my 4th birthday. btw, thanks for the LA sleeve info the other day. If I go that route, I'll let you know, but I'm still indecisive

welp this thread has been dead for a while but i'm currently in the process of working on a similar build myself with my first gen. i'm going to be doing a 376 with the fl350 cylinder/head. kenny roberts and rob selvy are helping me along with this build so i have a feeling this will turn out pretty cool. i think i'm gonna go with one of kenny's sectional drag pipes for this build and just keep his in frame sectional pipe on my hondaline 300 motor the way it is.

yea haha i guess these types of builds have died off considering the lack of resources or machine shops being able to do what is requested. when i was talking to kenny roberts he was mentioning how when he had an air fooler back in the day that had a 300 kit on it he did a mod on it where he re sleeved that 300 cylinder made to accept a yz400 piston which comes out to a 85mm bore. he said it worked but never ran right but that was just because he never had a good enough pipe to go along with the build, this was also before he even got into the pipe business himself or else he easily could've made one himself. i was almost going to this route on my build but we all know how hard it is to even find the 300 cylinders and heads now n days. since the fl350 cylinder and head were way easier to find i just went ahead with going this route. i did come across a guy that has 2 sets of 300 cylinders and heads but he said they were already claimed 2 other guys which wasn't surprising.
