They show the reruns on Science Channel now. I have been watching a lot of them recently. I can't believe how many 3 wheelers are on these episodes. You usually catch them in the background or they are getting chopped up for purposes to make whatever the episode is about. But I caught the tail end of an episode today and the challenge was to build dune buggies.

The green team actually just plain used a performance 2 stroke trike. I just caught the ending so I didn't see it when they dug it out of the yard. It was painted green and definitely a 2 stroke. I got a glimpse of the gas tank and you can see where it had the indent for radiator shrouds. The fenders seemed to be a concoction that the team made up for it but they basically left it as just a trike and used it for the competition at the end of the show.

They were the green team so the trike was painted green. I couldn't tell if it was a Tecate or a 250R. It wasn't a Tri Z I could tell that much. Now I'm frantically searching the net looking for a download of this episode but haven't been able to find it. I might find it on Amazon or something. I know the episode is titled "Dune Buggies".

Just thought I'd share a finding that some of you may enjoy like I did.

It was a (I may be wrong but pretty sure) CR 250 that they converted into a trike. At the start one team planned to make a trike and the other team planned a quad, but the quad team ended up making a trike and the trike team made something similar to a snowmobile power lawn-mower. The trike won hands down though.

Yeah, the trike won easy but the idiot riding it had no clue how to ride a trike. The opposing team had what looked like a golf cart with some sort of snowmobile engine or something on it. It was heavy and bulky and the front end broke so they couldn't even finish the race. I need to find that episode for my personal collection!

It's on a few sites but it is inside a HUGE 22gb torrent of a crapload of junkyard ep's.

You could just select that one episode from the list though.

i find it questionable how they find all these running engines just sitting there and they always find the right parts no matter how rare they are...........RIGGED

Would you prefer 6 hours of watching them try to get an engine running that is rust seized from sitting in the yard?

There will always be a running engine for each team. There will be parts within a general category of what would be needed for the build, but usually not exactly the perfect part. Pretty much what is stated is true. The teams really do not know what they will build until the day of. They never said the experts don't know. Obviously if they are experts in what is being built they would have clue. It really is a 10 hour build. They used to say 1 hour of tweak time the day of the race. They stopped saying 1 hour in later episodes. The time is still limited and the changes cannot alter the design/appearance of the machine. Basically they can tighten the bolts, bolt things on that were just set in place, align chains, put coolant in, etc.

Due to 'liability reasons', the drivers/riders did not get a chance to run the machines hard or learn the characteristics of the machine until on the track. Then each one only drove once. They also did not want the machines broken before filming. Having them hold together at all is a feat in itself.

it still is an interesting show, and it does take alot of skill to do what they do, i think all shows like these have some things staged just so like you said they get down to the interesting parts of building

What torrent site do you guys like??

I always felt that when they said "Tools down" in the middle of a mig weld with a mere 1 hour the next day to finish was a bunch of BS. But, it's all in the fun just like the home shows when they make you feel like the paints being applied as they walk thru the door with the homeowner

I do love that show though :D
