So i went and looked at an 85 R today...i cant decide if its worth 900 or not.?.?

The Good
It seems to run good
All bearings seem good
Seat is perfect with 250r logo still there

The Bad
Leaks from kicker oil seal
needs all new plastics rear, front, shrouds, and headlight shell
Tank is all faded white
needs tires
needs shock boots and seals
needs chain and sprockets
front brakes dont work for unknown reason
float seems stuck because with gas on it drips out of the over flow

The bads seem to out weigh the goods here but what do you guys think?

A picture would be nice, but that would depend on what the supply is like in your area. I know here, something like that will go for 900, but only because it is a liquid R. Otherwise, it sounds like you should offer him $750 and see what he says. Don't be affraid to haggle, unfortunately times are tough, he may just need the money that bad. Unfortunate for him, but good for you. Besides, the worse he could say is no.

ya i could try he started out askin 1400 so i dont think he would go that low...there are only a couple other liquid R's for sale in my area that i have seen in the past 6 months and if they run and look good they are wanting 1800ish i dont have that kinda money..i was thinking by the time i have 1200-1300 in this one it would look good and run good but i still dont know if it is worth it.

ok, again bro, i wish I could see a picture of it. But it sounds like you would be getting your moneys worth to me, especially since you say you have only seen a couple. I would weigh my options heavily against your wants, resources and needs. If it fits the bill, go for it! Welcome to the club of liquid R's. I love mine, a bit too fast, but that is not a bad thing. I payed $1600 for it, but was in what I would consider absolutely great condition. Maybe not excellent, but put gas in and go condition. My brakes did not work at first either, but it was stored for 10yrs, so they just lost their prime. I blead them, and no problems yet. By the looks of that 350x you have, this will be a great addition to the family. The best part is that parts are plentifull right now for these bikes.

Ask the guy if it ever had the top end rebuilt, and how long ago. If he says a few years ago, and he has been riding it normally since then. I would consider that a good thing. But if he says he just did it last month or even year. Then be carefull, cause he may have had too many problems, and now just decided to sell it.

Again, you have a few bikes already, you know what your doing. Your just looking for support on your decision. I say go for it!

For that condition without pics it's hard to say but I say it's worth the 900 or a tad less, maybe 750 especially since the motor is leaking and fuel.. Plastics are expensive and so on so it really depends on what you can do to clean it up

From what you described... I wouldn't drop more than $800 on it even if it did run.

A "running" engine - which I would take with a huge grain of salt. And a nice seat. Along with a parts lot for $900? I would pass.

If you want a project and you are willing to wait around until you can score good deals, you may not completely lose your azz on it. But $900 wouldn't interest me. I'd have to go $550 to get interested. Cause you know that thing is holding back some more $urpri$e$.

And lets face it, how much is he really gonna get by parting it out? He might get $500 together pretty quick, but then it'll be a lot of low buck parts taking up room.
