Michigan Official Otter Lake ATV Ice Race's(POSTPONED Now Feb 21-22nd)!!!

http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/oo64/sandpuppi101/OtterlakeRegistrationform08.jpg Well it's 100% official , Feb 7th '09 in Otter Lake Michigan will be the place too be if you wanna get out and do some racing( weather pending).The actual event will be Feb 7th and 8th for the snowmobile's,but the ATV Event will be on the 7th,only sled's on the 8th. You must be registered and have your machine tech'd in no later than 11:30 am ,and the 1st race is scheduled to drop the flag at 12:00-NOON.. A reserve date has been made for Feb 21st and the 22nd ,with the ATV event being on the 21st.

I posted what the registration form will be like including classes.And don't worry if you don't have stud's,we are also having non-studded classes and those are just as much fun to watch as they are to race,so no excuses people. I am thinking that I will be racing my '85 ATC 250ES Big Red in the non-studded class this year.And due to a huge response from the motorcycle racer's ,we will also be having Motorcycle race's this year also.That will be a 50/50 payback ,No trophies on the bike's.

This year as if I don't have enough going on, I will be in charge of the ice race's and am looking for any voulenteer help that I can get.Maybe it will only be for a few minute's ,maybe not at all,but any and all help would be appreciated.I have posted the form on here also to see what class you would fall into and you can also find out more detail's such as driving direction's and any update's on the event threw there website www.otterlakewinterfest.com/ and if you have any more question's feel free to call me at 810-614-1902 , e-mail me at Muddogsrestorations@aol.com or drop me a PM.

Trophies will be given out to all 1st ,2nd and 3rd place finisher's in each class and a 50/50 payback on all motorcycle classes.Also on the drag stip you can run a few classes or you can do timed runs and actually see how fast your machine really is.And if ya have a snowmobile make sure you bring it out,the sled's will be running for both day's..There's gonna be lot's of action on the ice for sure..Muddogs Restoration will be setting up a tent and showing off some of my new ride's ,and I'll have it heated so bring the family,kick back and enjoy youself for a day or both if ya want..

Now you know what's coming next...I want to see as many trike's on the ice as possible, I do this with every event I participtate in but I would like to see a bunch of you Michigan ,Canada,OTC I'm calling ya out.Indiana,PA.,Illinois rider's come out and partisiptate in this event.There's gonna be alot of quad's there and I want the trike presense to be overwhelming for these people.Even if ya don't wanna race bring the family and enjoy this event,it's deffinatly worth it.Anything I can help ya with just ask,so pencil the 7th in.Oh ' quad's are welcome also,but I'd like to see more trike's than quad's this year like last year's Labor Day Smith Road..

OK so it took some time, but I finally convinced Ross to come to Otter Lake with me :lol:

Looks like we are going to trek the kids up there with us (unless they find something they'd rather do in the meantime) so it should be a great opportunity to warp their little minds.

I guess this means that I'll have to compete against all of you guys on my blaster eh? OK I'll just come up behind and pick up everyone who fell off.... unless Ross finds me something different to ride before then and works a good deal on a local 200M, and he even just said he might let me ride one of the R's unstuded :w00t:

We'll look for some lodging near by and see you there. Roger, I'm happy to help out were you need me. We'll probably make a weekend of it.

Scott already knows about it and it looks like he and my other BIL Mark are planning to join us as well. So we should have a good Canadian crew coming up.

Was doing some checking and see there is a Comfort Inn in Davison, MI which is about 16 miles south of Otter Lake. The motel is located right off of I69 in Davison, MI. Address is 10082 Lapeer Rd.. Phone # is 810-658-4222 I don't know what would be available closer. From the motel it is a straight shot up M-15 or State Rd. about 15 miles to Lake Rd. turn right and follow that to the metropolis of Otter Lake. It is out in the boonies. Don't know if there is a Tim Horton's in Davison.

Hublake, there IS a Tim's in Davison, so that work for me! :p :p It's straight North on 15 from where the hotel should be I think. Sounds like a plan, we'll make some reservations tonight.

I did a search, and there is a hotel in Otisville, but I'm not sure what kind of "hotel" it is the review only talks about the Friday night Karaoke, and while that may be entertaining, I'm not sure about the small town hotel idea :lol:

There is a Fairfield Inn in Lapeer as well only 20 mi from Otterlake, but they have an indoor pool, not sure if that is something folks would be looking for or if it's worth the extra dive (not that 4 mi is a big difference). We might also be able to get a deal on Priceline.com staying in Lapeer, but Davison is not available for the "name your price" thing.

OK folks, here's the deal. If you call the Comfort Inn in Davison
Phone: (810) 658-2700. Tell the person that you are a AAA member and you'll get 10% off (that is their standard group rate) you don't need to provide a AAA number for the discount. The gal I talked to said they still had lots of room and would be able to put us all together. So I guess we should mention that when we register as well. I'll make our booking tonight so you can tell her you want to be near Ross Woodhouse if that works for you.

If the weekend is pushed back to the 21st due to weather we have until 4:00pm on the day of arrival to cancel or change the booking with no penalties. The weekend of the 21st has a few bookings but is not busy per say.

On Feb 7th. we will get 10 - 12 hogs (2 for me) and spend that Saturday and Sunday gutting and skinning and hang in the cooler till the following weekend and then spend 2 days processing meats.
Hams will be sent to the local smoker. Towards the end of Feburary we will make up our brauts.
I put 65 packages of 4 brauts per package in the freezer alone last year.
Last years price per pound when all said and done was 1.45 per pound.
That includes smoker cost, our wrapping paper, seasoning - every thing.
I will furnish brauts for a lunch for everybody at Sandpuppys ride this year.

As a little update on the race's ,I had to actually make a few more classes,nothing major -but since it's looking like a huge attendance not only from the trike community but the quad's also,I included a modified class.Basically had to do it.Now the question is : What is Modified?? Well just to make it easy on myself basically,even if you have a bone stock machine with nothing done to it at all except for a pipe/muffler ,whelp your now in the Modified class.I actually was gonna word it as an improved class but modified is what I came up with.It's not gonna be a big deal at all actually-in fact it open's it all up to where I'll be able to hand out 15 more trophie's if all the classes have at least 3 rider's.Sooo basically it's just a way of making it easier on me,and if you want to you can run your stocker in the mod class also but you'd have to sign up again.

It's getting alot closer,I hope all is coming together for everybody..Thing's are looking good as far as the BS I gotta do ,actually I love putting on these event's and seeing all you guy's.:Bounce I talked too the committee chair yesterday and discussed doing an interview with the local radio station's and have'nt heard back on that yet,but the flyer's are coming out in the next day or so,so that's my next project.:rolleyes:

Another thing we hashed over was the track this year.Last year the track was 150' foot by 300' with pretty hard cornering on the short track and 450 x150' on the big track with the same tight corner's.This year motorcycle's are running also so I apted to go with a 300' x 300' radius with well rounded corner's so it's user friendly for the bike's and the ATV's.The track's well maintained believe me,there will be at least 2 quad's ready to plow when I say ,and I'm gonna mix the bike's with the ATV classes also..I don't know if i said anything but the proceed's of the event go directly to the Otter Lake Firework's which will be Sat .night and ther will be at least 1 big bon fire so were good to go.Im also bringing my webber grille so all ya need is some dog's and burger's..:beer

One thing I do need is at least 1 more pop-up canopy like the one's I have,if anybody's got one they can bring.I'm setting up a tent with some of my machine's and what not ,plus for warming up in but I'm thinking more canopy's.
On a side note Gag you said something earlier about some Tecate wheel's and tire's..Drop me a PM on that..I have some nice trailpro

But.... if the 600 was coming i was thinking of chancing it as i live 2 miles away....... I don't think you have to worry about me you guys. I was planning on bringing down my SX but as I was fixing one problem, I caused another. Roger, do you still have that SX motor I gave you. If you do I need the left side of the case. I stripped out my oil drain hole and as I was trying it I did something else, I caused more problems. Won't comment on what I did, as it still might work in a pinch. Tapper, don't forget that head pipe for the 200. Roger if you need any help on Fri. Let me know. I can get down by noon if need to.

It runs fantasic, at first I thought that my clutch was slipping, every gear the tires were breaking loose on a gravel/snow covered road. I never thought I'd say it, but I think my 200x might go on the market :cry: . I won't be riding it to much this year!

Well Joe has got all our Ohio buddie's coming up with him ,I think ther's a total of 6 or 7 of those.Sam the guy who got Derrick's 450 is gonna be there running open studded ,Joe's running a 350X and the other's are running 110 to 250R's I believe.I'm running the Big Red still,I'll probably be running arond all the time so that will be perfect for me.

Ross I had to make another class because of how I'm expecting so many ATV's this year.You gotta remember when this thing started it was just a bunch of farmboy's out running on the ice and snow so they could knock the cow sh!T off there tire's.But now these guy's are running carbon fiber this and stroke'd that..Ya know..Anyway's it's getting closer gang and getting anxious too see ya.

Gag's truck is not up for the haul between needing tires and having a power steering pump go out yesterday. If Curt isn't going (or lopez, or Ed, or WideOpen, or.. or... or...), then I'm not going to be able to go. But family comes first. I'll spend the time setting up my shop (basement) to finish my 70 for trike fest and to get my T3 rebuilt. I'll be racing in spirit. :-)

Yes I'm gonna be the good son that I am and see my mom. Besides I got to race last weekend sence we have ice racing here.They have a road coarse and an 1/4 mile oval,but still a bummer that i can't make it up to ride. I think I will stay with the 350x for now, maybe someday the 600 will be in my stable :naughty: I'm a little worried because I did ride with the throttle wide open all the time, now I have an extra 150cc to consider :lol: Your going to have to come to Silverlake with us in the spring/ early summer. See you on Saturday morning. What time are you going to be there on Sat.? What's the fee for racing/ watching? I have my wife and my oldest daughter as a pit crew ;)

I did go out to the lake and checked it out,they've been keeping the track's all groomed off and everything was looking good except the 1st 10foot or so on the edge's of the shore,not a big issue though.Once you get out there a few feet the ice is about a foot thick,so it should'nt be a biggie.

Not sure yet about Scott and the Bombi, but there was some talk of him bring his Polaris that he picked up this summer (if he does, make sure you give him a really hard time... it looks like something outta Miami Vice :lol: )

Throw that GPS away and just follow m-15 north through Davison and Otisville keep going north until you see the sigh to Otter Lake. Turn right and follow that road. For the money you spent on that GPS you could have bought more trike parts.:lol:

I had a wonderful time at Otterlake! I met new board members that were awesome people to talk with, along with the other board members. The drive home was long and very snowy, but made it home safe and sound. The 350x got sick from the snowy weather and now has to go to the doctors :lol: either that or pulled something in the carb. trying to catch another 350x in the race :lol: Looking forward to next years race! I'll be running the modified non studded. :beer

Was a great time and had a lot of fun, I don't think I even officially finished the race:lol: :lol: , my trike got the front wheel stuck in a pile of snow and the rears were on clean ice:rolleyes: couldn't even move, 4 or 5 spinouts didn't help my chances either:beer :beer . I had a great time, it was snowy, but I stayed warm enough...

I managed to finish my race, didn't spin out, didn't crash and even passed somebody! Considering I've never raced before... I think that is a great personal best!

WHEW !!!!! Boy was I tired yesterday,I actually took the whole day Sunday offand did absolutley nothing but watch the NASCAR race.. 1st off I wanna say Thanks for all the help that everybody did for me ,I know it may have not seemed like alot but you guy's really helped me out even if it was the smallest thing,and a special thanks for the pic's and vid from Shannon and Ditchmudd,and to my flag guy's Ross ,Scott ,Eric,Bill,Dean and everybody else,Thank's.Did Tapper's wife take the video??One of the Big bummer's with running the event's that I do is that it really cut's into my socializing time,and man was I busy.I had some people asking me the stupidest question's ,wanting to know when they were gonna Drag Race and we were just starting the unstudded.I was told by one guy that I promised him I would clear his lane in the Drag's and then I staged him and he ended up with a 3rd,he proceeded to rip my arse and I was very polite and told him he was wrong and another guy in the Drag's wanted to Kick my Arse,I just laughed at that fella.LOL,Trikefest Drag's don't get heated up like this I was thinking to myself,but I'll still be doing Otter Lake next year,LOL..

It was great to see all my trike family out there,it was a ton of support not only for our trike's but for me also.Thanks again for all the help and for the support you guy's put up.Tapper I did'nt get to talk at you or your wife very much but my compliment's on the 350x ,it looked really good,and I did'nt really get to meet the other 350X rider,do I know him guy's?? Unveil that person,is he a new member?? I know one thing even putting this race back 2 week's did'nt make attendance much smaller,infact I think the ATV race's were the biggest so far.More trike's this year fo sure..You guy's ROCK !!!!!

Thanks again Roger for all that you did to make the day a success. My wife didn't take any pictures/ video. The batteries were dead in the camera and she didn't want to wreck her sisters new camcorder with the snow. I think that Shannon and Ross did a wonderful job! She said that she had a wonderful time. You might have someone else in the womans class if you have one next year, I was giving the go ahead to find an atv. She feels unsafe on a three wheeler but wants to try a four wheeler :w00t:
I beleive the guys board name is 14riding, and his Dads name was Bruce, but I can't remember his name, either way they were great to talk to. I mentioned your Rose City ride to them. Hope that he can make it out!
