250sx clutch missing piece

I was reassembling my 250 sx engine last night and I thought that I might be missing a bit of my clutch. Notice the difference between the the two clutches below. Mine looks like the one on the right and I think that it should like the one on the left. Has anyone ever come across this? Am I actually missing this or was it never there?

You do need that little cap / plunger thingy. If you don't have it then you need to get one.

The plunger that fits in the bearing just slides in so it could have fell out easily without you realizing it. That is when the clutch adjuster pushes on so you need that.
