Hey folks!

This is Jochen from cold Germany.
I spent the last summer in Alberta, Canada. There I used a Honda ATC 185S a couple of times. Since I'm back here, I miss driving that thing. I thought about buying a 3-wheeler and searched on ebay and similar websites.
Finally I found one that was in my area and not too expensive.

http://cgi.ebay.de/KAWASAKI--KXT-250-Tecate-Vollcross-(TRI--CR-KX-RM-YZ)_W0QQitemZ150320771171QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ2009 0116?IMSfp=TL090116121002r15000

I payed 800€ (1035$) for that. I know, its not in the best shape, but its hard to get one here.

The previous owner told me, it starts hard, because he exchanged/renewed the piston (<-- is that the correct word?). Is that possible or did the trick me? He was able to start it after a few tries; I can't start it at all.

Another thing is, that I'm going to change the transmission oil. I asked google for that. I got information for oils between 10W30 and 85W. So what is supposed to be right for my transmission?

I'm a completely newbie on engines, especially on two-strokers.

So long...
Jochen

I use, and have always used Bel-Ray Gear Saver transmission fluid. I have never had any failures in the 20 + years I have been using it.

Should be easier to start with new piston.

Regular 10w40 (with no friction modifiers) is oil Kawasaki says to use.

Most people use 80w or 85w gear oil bought at a motorcycle shop (Golden Spectro, Bel Ray, ect...)

Lots of people use ATF type F transmission fluid.

It may be hard to start if the carburetor is not jetted correctly or the reeds are bad or may be some other problem.

And for future use, the correct term is "replaced" (the piston). Welcome to the board !
