View Full Version : The Great Weight Race is on! UPDATE: Ohlins rear shock and LSR antifade locknut

Over the winter I've been putting my 86R on a steady diet to shed it of some unnecessary weight. What the weight saving mods are is pretty easy to guess but I've got a couple up my sleeve that I'm pretty sure no one else will have.:w00t: Since I'm putting my poor trike through all this I figured I better lose some weight too. Those PBRs haven't been kind to my ninja physique this winter and neither has being newly married:lol:
So here is my idea: Let's start a weight race, not only on our trikes but also on ourselves. Everybody knows that less weight is like free horsepower. Everyone usually concentrates on cutting weight from their machines but doesn't stop to think how much cheaper and more effective it is to lose weight themselves.
So is anybody with me on this? I'm doing this regardless if anyone else is, but it would be easier if I had other people to compete against. I'm thinking let's do it over a three month span. Have a pic of the scale with your starting weight and a pic of the scale with your end weight after the three months. For the trikes we'll start with the factory weight and end with a pic of the trike on the scale and it's weight then.
Any suggestions, ideas, or sarcastic remarks?:welcome:
I dont care how much my trike wieghs or myself... its got a 500.

Ha Ha, now that is funny!
But he has a point, hell, I am at 320lbs. if I lost 100lbs, I am sure the bike would be a whole other beast, not to mention less abuse for the poor thing LOL!
I am in!
I will take pic's later when I get home

I don't have a scale, but I'm down for this, put me down for 307...with a 330 pound 350x, that's a total weight of 637
...can't shave any weight off the x, I can shave about 80 pounds off before I start looking retarded.
I'm already kind of on a diet...just eating 5 times a day as opposed to once...and only eating decent stuff. If this is a competition though, I'll break out the running shoes, spinach, wheat bread, and fat free hot dogs. then it'll be ON.

Thus is gonna be fun as hell! Yes this is a competition. My goal is 200 pounds for myself and 240 for my 86R after 3 months. Longterm is 180 for me and 235 for the R. This is dry weight of course on the trike.

ronnie and i talked about making a alumiunm drag frame for the mantis or the red/black one i have. i might save 10 pounds max, but it would look bada$$, and trick all polished up!
three wheelers are fairly light to begin with, its very hard to shave alot of lbs. off compared to a quad.

You should have started this in October. I lost 25lbs the first two months of working this job. I've been holding steady around 175lbs since then but I'm sure I'll drop some more if I'm still working here when the triple digit temps come back.
I lost 50lbs in four months once before (and another handful a couple months after that). And that was living on my usual diet of 100% fast food since I can't cook.

I can't really cut anymore weight off of my 500R, but I'd be in for some type of a personal weight contest. To make it fair, could we do percentages? I only need to lose about 30lb myself but I'd be built like a freakin brick wall if I managed to do it.

I'll get in on this. I'm at 250 right now. I hurt my back a while ago. Got married and quit smoking. All that has taken it toll on me. I have been looking to get back in shape. Maybe this will be the boost I need. My trike probably won't win but I am shaving some weight off it as well.

You caught me Kasey. For some reason last night while I was at work I had it in my head that an R was 277 lbs. I got home late last night and started looking at my Honda brochure and discovered to my embarrassment that that is the weight of the 86 200X which I've also been working on. OOPS! So, starting at 291 for the R and dropping 30-40 pounds of it is the goal. But yes, I will be using tricks from the CT ultralight project and a few of my own. This will be an MX setup. "Gentlemen, we have the technology..."
Brapp, a new front spindle is in the works for me also, hopefully I can get enough of these made to sell some. A removable aluminum subframe is also in the works on my 85 frame as well as my 86. :pics: will be coming in the ensuing next couple of months. Once again, I will try to get enough of these subframes made so that others can have them too. Basically, I've spent the past couple of months getting all my ducks in a row to make this happen. When it all comes together it will be a blitz build. Wish me luck and good fortune times are tough for alot of people right now, but I am determined to finally do this and so far it is looking positive.

That's exactly the plan Billy, percentages. We should also have some sort of prize at the end and a good way to verify the results. We also need to establish an official start date and end date for this comp. I'll give it a couple more days here to see who is all in on this and then we should have a list of everyone who's competing made up.

Sounds like a plan, I always struggle the hardest with motivation, and I think doing this will definitely help. We need to have daily "weigh-ins" and maybe a weekly total round up too, I think that a lone will be a major contributor into the motivation factor. Would be for me atleast.
NINJA
01-23-2009, 05:50 PM
Agreed Billy, that would help alot for motivation. A daily weigh in might be a little excessive to post but a weekly weigh in sounds pretty doable.

so I'm 16 years old at 170, and my big red is at 400 I think, so that's 570 pounds.
I'll find a scale at the end. So my goal is to be to 130is and the big red to be 370 that's the most I think can come off of both me and bigred.

Just scored a nice Ohlins rear shock and LSR antifade locknut and hub off ebay. As some of you know I'm a diehard Ohlins fan. Their shocks last forever, they're the first I ever learned to valve and rebuild, they're trick as hell, and, they come from the factory as close to right as the average tuner can get:w00t: Got it for around a bucksventy including shipping! The LSR hub had a BIN of $69, can't go wrong there, perfect splines and no stripped threads. I will compare the weight of the stock 250R shock vs the Ohlins tomorrow. I will also be comparing the weight of the LSR brake hub/locknut assembly vs the stock components tomorrow.
Anyone else picking up lighter components or comparing weights of them? Post it up here if you are.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If any member can post the weight of a stock 86 250R swinger, and a stock aluminum fourcrax swinger, please do so.

sorry its taken so long to get weighed in. I'm already lighter than I thought, but the wife just got me a monster box of russel stover chocolates, and I'm a sucker for chocolate! Good to see some of you dropping the pounds already. If anyone needs any workout tips for those problem spots let me know.

All my weight is in the torso and arms. Legs are solid... Chest has a measurement of 56 inches or so. So yeah, cut off this gut. Lol

 thing with the gut, which is my problem, is you can do all the abb work you want, but it just wont show unless you clean up the diet and add lots of cardiovascular.

Just reminding you guys to post your weigh in pics by tomorrow to see what kind of progress was made last week. Also, this is still a trike thread, so anyone with proposed weight loss for their trikes please share your ideas or new parts with us.

Hmmm, is no one weighing in? Has this become a social experiment gone awry? I'm at 226 this week. Not as much progress as I wanted, but progress nonetheless.
Remember, the end date for this is May 5th.

Well here ya go boys, the aluminum airbox is a go. I can sell these for $150 shipped if anyone is interested. They aren't lighter than the stock airbox but they are trick as hell.:w00t:
The aluminum subframe project has started way. It's costing me around $800 for the first to be made up plus materials. The good news is it will cost less to make up the rest of them. I'll be selling them for about $500 shipped. They will be made of 6061 and will accept a stock grab bar to be bolted on. I won't have pics for a few weeks but I'm putting it out there if anyone is interested.
nice box. if you do a search someone put a trx aluminum box on a R it seems to be an upgrade

Huh. Thanks for the info. I'm searching right now. Also, thanks for weighing in guys.
Goat, if you're going to be sitting alot at your job then I suggest getting up off your azz and doing some honest work! J/K Actually try taking a guarana supplement it will hijack your metabolism and help you to still lose weight in extended periods of physical inactivity, plus it gives you a sweet buzz when it first kicks in.:w00t: Drawbacks are that it makes you chatty and when you get hungry you REALLY get hungry!
