Well as luck would have it. I found a 85 250r without even trying. Yesterday after work I needed to drop off some supplies at a warehouse south of here in Tacoma, got there chatted with the guy and mentioned he had a friend who rides three wheelers, well after some talk he told me that he had one in the warehouse thats been sitting since 1990. It was locked off, but after about 6 calls we got a hold of him and he said he would be down in 10min anyways. So we wait about 30min  he shows up and shows me a almost immaculate 1985 250r, has a few dings and minor cracks in shrouds, but other than that its in good condition. Before I could even ask him about the price, he asked if I know anything about welding. Told him I did and he said, for 50.00 and a weld on his banshee's frame it would be mine. Took about 45min to do a good weld on it, clean it up, paint with some he had and buff it out. Stuck to his word and sold me the 250r with title!!! The gas smells like varnish, has 2 sets of maiers for the rear, seat has one tiny itty bitty hole, shrouds are a lil cracked and no spark. But for the price. I got a good deal. He said the kicked slips at the very bottom.. and it did once for me after a dozen kicks, not sure why.

So now I have another project and the pics will be coming in a few minutes.

Heres the pics, the rear rim and the shroud are pretty much the only damage. The pics make it seem faded and scuffed, but thats my camera's fault.

So, other than a coil, what else would cause no electricity to run through the bike?

It could be the stator. Just have to get a digital volt meter and start checking readings.

When you are checking for a spark on a 250R make sure you are kicking it fast enough to deliver a spark.

Twilight

yeah i was going as fast as I could. The gas in the tank, was so far gone, it was just pools of 2 stroke oil stuck!!

I shall get my volt meter and start checking. He told me the last day rode it, that it just died when he landed a jump. Then never touched it.

I know it might be a no-brainer but also throw in a new plug. From the story of the previous owner it could be something as simple as a fouled plug.

LOL, I have to admit I recommend that to many people, but I didnt do it myself. hahaha

It was hard, but well I wasnt too surprised, he said it hadnt ran and didnt want to make any promises, thew guy is 67 years old and had so many toys. Had banshees, 300ex's, few foremans and a ltz450r. I think he enjoyed talking to me about his old days of riding and travelling more than the trike!.

What are you long term plans for it?

Twilight

To be honest, when/if I get the engine running. I will be doing as much as a restore as I can. Front fender bracket is a lil tweaked and the bolts on it have minor rust, shrouds need some plastic welding or new ones. Engine I am undecided... might sandblast and paint, or leave as is (its not that bad, my friends cr250 had that much rub after 4 months). The front end was stiff and when breaking the suspension loose a fork seal started to leak, so I will replace that.

In all I will get her running and looking good. Then ride the snot out of her!

Looks like a great deal! Whats that disc bolted to the rear sprocket? Something to keep the chain from falling off?

Keeps it from landing on the bearing carrier.

S&M! Sounds like it's into bondage and black leather:lol: Or the worst Metallica album ever made:lol:

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

SAWEEET find man! A liquid R for $50.00 is about as good as it gets. That is just incredible. It gives me faith that deals like this can still pop up. Not in bad shape either. Get that thing runnin and go have some fun!

I will get better pics on a sunny day. Mine dont do it justice.

New coil didnt work, doesnt seem like any part of the bike gets power... or my voltimeter doesnt work on it.

Very nice find Twilight!!

it needs a stator or cdi box.

Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes guys buy crap they don't need.....

It COULD need a CDI or STATOR.

Or have a:

Broken wire
Bad coil
Bad on/off switch
Sheared flywheel key
Bad ground

Some of which can be fixed just time and electrical cleaner.
