So I was out putting in my new friction plates and clutch springs tonight and as I was tightening the bolts that hold the springs in - YUP - snapped one off!

Damn.

I'm gunna try and drill the broken bolt our and rethread the hole but I'm sure I'll mess that up too. So if anyone has an extra clutch basket to fit an 82R they wanna get rid of/donate/sell - contact me.

btw - besides snapping a bolt - is there any other concerns that I should know about which arise from over-tightening the clutch spring bolts? I've been told 7-9 pounds of tourqe max - but if you go tighter what problems can/will arise?

If you just snapped the head off, there is a good chance that the bolt is free in the hole, assuming it didn't bottom out.
You might get lucky and drill a small hole in the bolt, and be able to get something to wedge in the bolt (preferably and easy-out) and be able to spin it out.

As far as overtightening, you could maybe snap a tower off of the basket, or stress it, possibly.

this has happened to me many times and the bolts never got stuck, you can use a nail or small screwdriver and get it out easily assuming it isn't bottomed out..

Thanks guys. In the end I 'fubared' the clutch center - rendered useless.

I've since found a replacement however.
