muffler idea?

my 84 big red es muffler cracked off from the exhaust manifold pipe, by the carb.(it was welded) its in pretty rough shape (muffler) could I just run a straight pipe and say F a muffler? right now it pops pretty damn loud when u let off the gas, but it sounds awesome!

I don't have a answer to your question but I would just find a used exhaust so you don't go deaf. LOL

Stop riding it until you get a replacement headpipe, lest you warp the exhaust valve and have bigger problems. You shouldn't have much trouble finding a used exhaust on eGay.

eGay lol.... couldnt you take a wire brush to it, and mig it? i would do that til u can find something better- when u get the muffler u can just knock off the tack welds and weld up the new one ;)

My guess is it's so hardened at this point that it will just crack next to the weld in a short time. Are you missing any of the head pipe mounting bolts? If it's not supported well enough, this is only escalating the problem.

head pipe (which I call exhaust manifold is fine), excpet for the end where is goes into the old "clamp" which was removed and just welded. I wonder if they have a total aftermarket exhaust for it, I know dratv had one listed but he doesnt have any in stock or something
