just letting you know ford never made a 4x4 van they were all aftermarket conversions. Quiegly is the one company that makes them and they are near York PA. my speeling is wrong:wondering
there was a compny named Pathfinder that went bankrupt around 1990.

Yeah I know all about the conversion company Quigley and Pathfinder. I am hoping to find a quigley conversion they used the coil spring front suspension (much better ride) I am not looking to go off roading just want to haul my 2 trikes and so next year I can go to Brapps and get down his driveway:lol:

I think its time you buy a 1985-86 big red and just cruise the trails in style.;)
Let me know when you can ride again so us Long Island Boys can come for a ride.;)

4X4 Full size vans have for some reason held a special place on my "want list" of vehicles. I've never owned one but I'd love an early 80's chevy van with 33" or 35" tires. Everytime I see one I always tell my wife "Ohh Ohh, there goes my Van" as my neck snaps to get a glimps of the white elephant! You may also want to check out goverment liquidation sales, They're out there just gotta keep looking.

My cousin has one, well I’m not sure if he still has it out not I know it was sitting in his driveway for a while. I think his is a Dodge. I know he had the conversion done a long time back by a place in Michigan but it kept giving him problem. He has a plastic model hobby shop and would use the van to drive some of his stuff to shows.

get a scion xb like me... 27mpg in the WORST POSSIBLE CONDITIONS
and if you're creative, you can fit a triz, two atc 70s...an extra 70 engine, an Ice chest...and two suitcases in the back.
cargo space? pshhhh....I can haul the world in this thing.
also...the only time I've ever gotten stuck was driving down a pipeline behind the house... had to be pulled out by a tractor, as a 4k pound winch couldn't budge it.
It also forded 24-36 inches of water during hurricane gustav... about 100 feet long. No worries.
lol.
I'm kind of joking, but not really, they are cheap, the insurance is cheap, super reliable...I've run 85+ for 900 miles with only stops for fuel. I've run 1900 miles with only stops for fuel.... half of which I was loaded and running fairly mountainous terrain for the first 400 miles on the return trip.
at 135k on the dash, I wouldn't hesitate right now to drive it to alaska and back.
if you're only transporting one bike at a time, it's fairly economical.

4x4 Vans are the enigma! I've had 2...the orange one is a 1979 Ford E250 Pathfinder conversion that was my first vehicle in highschool. I bought it from San Diego and restored it the summer of my sophmore year. It had 39 inch Swamper boggers, 8 inch lift, 460 Engine, and the original orange paintjob was faded so we painted it the late 90's Ford mustang tangerine orange. It was sweet!!
My second one I built for scratch from a 1997 Ford E350 V10 van. It had a Dana 60 front axle with 8 inch atlas lift springs and 39 inch tires. I was able to locate alot of quigley conversion parts at the junkyard to make the conversion pretty easy. The hardest part was installing the transfer case and shortning the gas tank. Keep on vannin!!!!

Thanks for the pictures 3Razors those are some nice vans . Since I was 11 yrs. old I always wanted a 4x4 Van, I remember the van craze in the 1970's and been hooked ever since. These vans are hard to find in my area of N.Y. I am hopping to have 1 in time for trikefest , just don't want to sleep in a tent again.
Like I told Goat the quest continues in my search for 1 of those rare beasts
Thanks
Drew.

The search is over 200xman sent me a add from craigslist the van was 6 miles away from my house its a 1993 Chevy low top custom with a Quigley 4x4 conversion . The woman was the org. owner and has all the org. paper work that came with it. It has high milage but runs good, it needs some body work and some oil leaks fixed & tires no big deal. I need to get it ready to tow for trikefest, can't wait no more sleeping in a tent:p I hope to get some pictures up later in the week.

No I am leaving it stock height but will be cutting out the cat and adding a 3 chamber flowmaster muffler. I really need to tear into it and find out what gears are in it and see if it has a locked rear or not? I will not be picking up the van until later in the week I will take pictures then.

Thanks for the web site Lukester my van sure don't look like that maybe in a few years down the road. That van has leaf springs in front mine has coil springs. I don't plan on lifting it its high enough as it is. First I will take care of the drivetrain then I will address the body work. all in time and as money permits.
