Well, I got motivated yesterday to go pick up a set of bearings at my local distributor and tear into my 85 R last night.....got better the further I got!

Meet my two new best friends....

I need a bigger table, this is what I normally build Z50's and ATC70's on!

The bearings I got at my local bearing supplier were Japanese KYK bearings and the number on the box is 6908 2rs c3 sr12 and the number on the seal is TCM 62x52x8. Got it all apart and will clean it all up and inspect everything in the morning...

After cleaning everything up, I have one broken, one stripped sprocket bolt, the splines are starting to twist on one end of the axle, the seal surface on the sprocket hub is chewed all up, the swingarm bolt turns but won't come out, the swingarm is cracked at the bottom side of the ears on the side that has been welded once, and the bearing carrier is worse off than a 3 legged dog, blind in one eye with a bladder problem!

So I need to find an 85 bearing carrier, I need the large circlip for the brake caliper side and the axle will have to stand the test of time.

Or I am just going to brake down and do this!!!!

Time for a new carrier. There not getting any cheaper. I've gone thru 4. I shattered one in P.A. one time, came out in peices. From jumping to hard!! I would REBUILD the old. Had one similar. We ended up drilling thru and making a hill side washer(wedge shaped). Wirefeed that will take care of that crack(clean that crack!) in the swingarm. Or find another swing. Beets

Ive seen them go for 250 - 300$. Now would be a great time to buy one just to have for future considerations with the down market everything is cheaper.

At least you have an 85 and can find swingarms and bearing carriers on ebay. I can't find crap for my 84 and I need the same parts!

I simply rebuilt my bearing carrier,I built 2 steel bushing to replace the place were mine was cracked (like yours) and press it in the carrier.I think I will never have the change it forever...

I bought a Boss Racing carrier for my X cuz my carrier was beatup worse than yours, and I think it was 99$ or so, so far I'm happy with it. I didnt see any on ebay for the R's tho.

Somebody was selling no name loaded carriers for about 100$......

BUT, I'd upgrade it too if you can win the parts cheap!

I don't even own an R but I won a 06 swinger for .99c, carrier for 19.99 and an axle with hubs for 60$. The caliper is like 50$ brand new so thats not an issue.....

Update. One thing to point out is that the 450r axle is a little shorter than stock. It looked 3-6 inches shorter than the 350x axle.

if memory serves me correct the 250r axle will work in the 450 carrier but i swaped the entitre rear end om my 250r and alli had to do was make a set of bushings.

I know it's shorter, what I need is the magic combo for the shock and linkage.....Is it 250R shock and 450R linkage, I also heard a 300EX shock works well, but I weigh around 240 so that is the question I have...

400ex shock is the best, with the 250R linkages on the 450R swinger

I had bid on it....I have something in the works tho.....

is the 400ex shock the one you have to scrap the airbox for? I had also heard the 300EX shock worked well for a +200# rider......

and what are the shock and linkage combinations that work with the 450R swinger.....

i am runnign the 250r shock with the 450 linkage. it willrais theback end up a littl ebit bu play ith your preload and your ride weight will brign it back down. and i think it rides and handles extremly well.
