I have been trying to find a good three wheeler and the only good deal I have come across is a '85 Yamaha 250 Tri-Z. I have not ridden a Tri-Z and have only ridden a ATC250R a little, most of my 3 wheeler experience is on a '86 ATC350X which I liked but I am wanting the 2 stroke engine. I guess I just really am curious of the ridding characteristics of the Tri-Z.

Ive had two of each and without a doubt, the R has superb handling compared to the Z in my opinion. To me, the Z feels like you are sitting on it and the R feels like you are in it. I always thought my TRI-Zs felt top heavy as well and awkward on the MX track. On the other hand, I love the low end of the TRI-Z, makes for an awesome trail trike! Buy the Z now and an R when you find one. They are both neat trikes, if I could only have one it would be the R though.

both a god machine but i personaly think the z just takes time to get used to if you have ridden a 350x.

Watch the 85 Z's. Them have puny lil front forks compared to the 86 Z's and 85/86 250rs!
Ive owned 3 86 Tri Z's and now I own a 85 and 86 250rs. In my opinion I would rather have 2 R's than 3 Z's. I just find them to be more balanced, motors are stronger, less vibes just all around better IMO.
The Tri Z's are good for trails, gas tank under the seat and tons of low end.
