atc 70 chain tensioner

on the 70's the drive chain tensioner has the little gear. how does that come off the bracket. i removed the snap ring and it just moves back and forth on the bearings. is it possible to remove just the gear?

They are made to be replaced as a unit. How ever I have taken them apart before and replaced the bearings. I just happened to have a rivet that I could use to put it back together.
