I purchased this 1985 250R almost a year ago and I wanted everyone to see the progress on this one. I know many do restos. on the 250R and that is why I didn't do a step by step over the past 6 months. So with that said I'll start with the original pics and move to tear down and on to build up.
Enjoy!!

Very nice. Did you have the whole engine painted or powder coated? If powder coated, did you take the engine components apart and have the powder coating done piece by piece?

That was a really nice machine you started with, and now it looks even better. It's nice to see some of the well cared for machines getting some fresh paint and a complete going over. Most of my projects start complete but they aren't very nice and i usually make up the cost difference without too much trouble, TC...

Nice original R to start with. You shuold have first cleaned it up real good. Might have not needed a resto. I am a big fan of original ATC's. They are only original once. Once restored it's gone forever. There is a certain pitina about them that just can't be reproduced! But nice work anyway!
Wow, your motor looks like an old Bridgeport machine. Everything else is stellar!!!!

Alright guys lighten up on his choice of motor color!! its not everyone's first choice im sure he gets it by now! nice job on the R! 88coupe i like your use of petina that is such a good word to use for an original Trike how it has aged and looks after years of reliability and use can never be replaced! although the look of a newly refreshed trike is the closest thing we have to seeing a new one for those of us who saw them growing up but were not old enough to own one!

Nice work there! I'm happy to have been of help to your long, hard efforts! Look'n forward to seeing it done!:beer Sometimes we all have to just dive in with a color choice to see what it'll look like. Like the Selvys pipe I recently posted(gold?). Everything can be changed down the road, if your heart desires a change of color later. If you ever want to powder coat your engine cases and/or cylinder, with your next re-ring job of engine overhaul, let me know. Just taking on an engine restoration is a big, time consuming project in it's self. Might as well spread the fun out, right? If I may give a small tip, I would use stock fork boot band clamps, rather than automotive clamps. I have two used OEM sets to offer ya for free, if you want. It might look a little cleaner with OEM clamps. Just my 2 cents, please don't be offended! Looks real nice though! -Andy :w00t:

Hey thanks for all the comments. The engine color is Gun Metal grey (thats supost to be close to the 86) It looks MUCH darker in person. I don't know why the pics look like it is light grey but it's not. It might be because I used a high temp mix without a clear coat. "I Du no:wondering " anyway, I got the rear break on today and need to purchase the plastics now soooo, Back to work for me.

I think Mr Buster Brown should have got his hands on that motor too :naughty: J/K
Hey, do what you can do.... The frame was the best thing you could have taken care of and it's DONE and done very well too :beer You can always yank the motor or buy a crappy one and rebuild/powder coat it while running this one.
Anyhow, LOOKING GOOD!!

Thats kinda what I was thinking. Over the summer I will look for a OK Motor. Bore/Stroke/polish/Power coat. I can always resell this motor it shuld run like a champ!:D
Whats got me going is I had the paint mixed for this and after seeing BB's on another thread this color is not even close.
Oh well it still looks nice and NOBODY in my area has a 250R in this condition!!:D

And a few of the 250R with the new Maier plastic. I know it isn't "original" but, when I scratch or break any of the plastic a new piece is only a call away.

I bought it last April and Rode it a little. It had a HELL of a noise in the engine so I knew I needed to rebuild it. I pulled the motor in Nov. and by Dec. I decided to do the complete restore. It wasn't that bad but their was a Krylon overhall without tape done to it. Onece the frame was powder coated I knew I had to all the way. The only thing I will change it sometime this summer or fall I will pull the motor and repaint it the correct grey or black color.
The plastic is all Maier, I decided to do this so if anything happens to it I can rebuild it back without porblems finding plastic. The decals are from Harlan and are for the 86. I should have put 85 decals on it but they are sooooo plain, So screw it, I put the 86 on it.
Other than the engine, all the colors are correct. and I will post the names when I get back to the shop and pick them up and put them away.
