ok, should be getting a play engine for a 200x soon if all goes as planned with the deal. found this article on here at some point and bookmarked it to use as a guideline for upgrades.

i'm looking at doing something similar to this engine but how much of a performance difference will there be? will it be worth the extra money or should i just keep it stock? is reliability going to take a hit at all?

here's the plan pending that i can find the parts:
xr200 carb and intake
xr200 cam
xr200 piston or wiseco piston 10:1

whether stock or not, i plan on using:
dg exhaust
k&n or uni air filter

i would like to have the xr200 bottom end and just change out the kickstart with the 200x but i'm having a hard time finding a reasonably priced xr200 bottom end. also, will all the xr200 and xr200r parts from all the years work on the 200x, with the exception of the 1984-1985 xr200r that had the dual carbs? a crf230 engine would be nice but price would be way outta my range.

Here's whats going into mine. XR200 30mm carb, with a billet intake spacer to make it all work, ported head, megacycle cam with bearings on both ends, mega cycle springs, New cam chain, and guides, Wiseco 10.25:1 comp piston, cobra head pipe with a fmf powercore 4 muffler. We will see how it runs this spring, should be done by May.

goat, once i get my stuff up and running, we gotta hook up and go riding. i just have too many projects to finish.

running 200x - strip down and pc
running 200 autox - strip down and pc and install a 200x motor
runing 200s - restore and sell
running atc90 - already stripped down but need to paint/pc it and put it back together

build up 200 auto x (currently a box of parts) and sell
build up 200 auto x (currently a box of parts) and sell
build up 185s (currently a box of parts) and sell
build up 185s (currently a box f parts) and sell
junk atc110 i don't know what to do with (i want an aftermarket frame for it)

I had a 85 200x with a port job, 30mil keihen with billet intake, oil cooler, Phase Five pipe and i think it had a cam.. For a 200X this bike realy moved.. I had it geard down and was running 18's, this bike had no problems running with 350X's.. With a few mods a 200X can be a very impressive bike..

I would love to hook up with you guys for a ride. You just have to promise to wait up for me and my stock 87 200X!

Just the xr 200 cam alone will make a huge difference, I know from experience. I dropped one in my buddies 200x, and I used to smoke him on mine, we both had aftermarket pipes (dg mine super trapp on his) but otherwise stock. Now he will beat me from the start to finish. I would say definatly yes. The cam we put in came from a 1991 XR 200, well worth the small price.

What were you running for gears? I have yet to gear mine but it has a set of 18" tires on it and I have no clue where to start with the gear change?
