I have a 1986 250sx that is running brakeless. Honestly, I'm not sure if I should bother with brakes because I learned to ride without them. But how hard is it to replace drum brakes or get them back in working order?

very simple, worst part is freeing everything up if they are that bad , if not pads are cheap and a cinch to replace, and cables if you dont want oem are prettycheap to and fairly simple to install. they are worth it even if you only need them once!!

So Easy a caveman can do it! Seriously, search the forums for manuals or buy one, get the one for a 250sx and find it in the manual. It's real easy, becareful with all the seals when you take it apart, those seals keep all the water out of the brake assembly and the axle and rear differential. Should take more than an hour or so to do it your first time. The inside of the housing should be clean except for the brake dust- if it's muddy or corroded you probably have a bad seal as well. I think there is about 4 possible seals to go bad on the brake housing. I just had my 86 apart and it was clean, I know I was the first to take it apart!
