Hello I'm a long time trike rider but new to this site. My problem is I bought a brand new factory replacement carb for my 1985 Honda 185S, the first day I put it on it ran good, 2nd day it was sputtering a little so I tryed adjusting the idle and pilot screws but only screwd up the settings, now I can't even get it to start. Is there any standard setting these screws are set at in the factory? Anyone maybe have pics or advice I can go by? I think I read where the pilot is two turns out, so how far out is the idle screw or how should the slide valve be sitting? I wouldn't think I'd have to adjust the needle jet straight from factory right?
Thanks!

Hey what is your VIN? There was no 85 185s, so you either have a 81-83 185s or a 200/200s. It makes a difference what the initial settings are for your jetting.

You're right, I wasn't sure on the year for this bike, I looked at a manuel and it is a 1981 Honda 185S

your main jet should be a 85 jet and the needle should be at the middle clip.

I think the pilot screw needs to be 1 1/8th of a turn out if memory serves me right, make sure its adjusted right and make sure its still there! I've had a similar problem with mine and saw that the screw was gone, vibrated must me. Put a new one in asnd it fired right up.

If you have a PD35a carb, the manual says the main jet is a number 95 and the pilot screw should be backed out 2 turns.
BTW, if you used RTV, it may have clogged the carb.

thanks for the replys people!, my bike was running rich and had a LOT of carbon on the sparkplug so I replaced it and it cranks. I've also read another topic where another guy w/ a 185 like me kept having to replace the plug. Wonder whats the deal w/ that.
heres the other guy's post
When I was rebuiding my 185s carb it was so picky... little air screw adjustments would cause it not to start at all.. found that I was fouling the plugs while adjusting the carb... went a got a handful of champion plugs and would swap them out like they were free.. It is funny I would take a relatively new plug out of the 185 and pop it in the 200M and the M wouldn't fire. Tuning the carb I have found is rough on plugs... just an idea.. you'll get it... I know it is a pain, my 185 was... and it sure isn't fun pulling a cord that much!!!

again,
rejet down to a 85 jet and set the needle to the 2nd form the top.
stock mixture screw (one onthe bottom that faces up) is 1 and 1/8 turn out.
you can order a stock jet form www.bikebandit.com for about $7.50 shipped. (i'd get the 85 and 90 jets just incase you need the 90)
