I just had to share this one with you guys. :naughty:
I called today to inquire about having 4 new ATV tires mounted on new rims just for shits and giggles...
Wanna just guess how much they were gonna charge me??? Well I save ya the trouble...
35 bucks per tire. but the guy in service was cool and said he'd cut me a deal and do all four for 90. :naughty:
Being the nice guy I am.. I just replied OK thank you and hung up. But I really felt like giving that guy a piece of my mind.
He was gonna cut me a deal....
Anyone else have any dealership horror stories? how do them guys sleep at night?

Oh my.......Most places around here suck azz. The local bombedier was an awsome spot to order parts. Every part I needed wheter it be honda suzuki or yamaha the guy (nicknamed buckman) would order it and give good deals. H'ed go out of his way calling and get whatever you need and if he couldn't get it he's find somewhere you could . Anyway he left to work in alberta or whatever now the store sucks. I have went for parts for elan's and have gotten the response " well to be honest getting parts for those are really worth it to us" The only way you'll get any service id if your buying an 12000 dollar skidoo or something. Also the local honda has some person working at the parts department wo has no clue about bikes. Must of got the job because of who they knew. I went the on a particular occasion to price parts for a cr80. I was looking for a water pump shaft..the one the impellar goes on. After waiting a while I asked if she seen it. She said " Oh I couldn'y find it. Guess those bikes don't have it."?!?! Since some arguments at local shops( I can be thick headed) I deal completly wih the Yamaha dealer. Fast service and great knowledge. Oh and know of those supposed deals..The inflation of those prices are unbelievable from the stores cost to the customers price. My girlfriends brother used to work for a kawi delarship so he orded my parts for me. Saved alot of money at his store cost.

I hear ya buddy.. Its hard to find good service anymore.
the place I listed above is the same place I walked into looking for stuff called chamber seal a while back. The kid behind the parts counter told me this.. "they don't make two strokes anymore."
My exact words to him were "you can't be serious?" and just walked out shaking my head.
Needless to say I buy my parts online anymore. but what are ya supposed to do about mounting tires. lol

I could mount 4 new tires on 4 new rims in less than 15 minutes including installing the new valve stems and setting the beads. Don't fault the dealership too much though since they have insurance, workmans comp, rent, utilities, sick/vacation time and lots of other expenses driving their pricing. I owned my own business for 8 years and trust me it's not as easy as it seems!

That's all fine and dandy xman.. but I'll be damned if me or anyone I know is going to be the one sending some of those guys on vacation. You would think they'd use some of that money to train some of those guys. if not anything then at least some people skillz.
even 90 bucks to mount 4 tires is robbing someone blind.

Well I guess I will give one thumb up for my Honda dealer. I haven't had any work done at my Honda dealer, but I get as many parts from them as I can. Their price is generally better than online prices and I can have the parts in just a few days. I bought new tires for my SX and they mounted them for nothing MY Honda dealer gets $60.00 per hour for work. They also have a parts person that has been there for many years and he knows what he is doing.

Actually, I was calling for a freind that brought the tires and rims to my house for me to help him mount them. So it wasn't like I was just calling from out of the blue. I knew it would be pricey.. but not that pricey.
Every other place in and around town charges $5-$10 per tire. but all were closed or closing shortly when I tried calling. So when you say $90 is not robbing someone I beg to differ.
Dammit!

I rarely go to the actual dealerships around here. We have a lot of shops that specialize in aftermarket parts and service. There's one within walking distance to my house that's very cool. For tires it's five bucks off and five bucks on. Valve stems cost a buck or two more if you need one.

True enough good service is hard to find.Usually now the only reason I will go to a delarship Is if I'm really stuck for a part to go riding that day, and that don't happen very often. Other than the local Yamaha dealer which i use, about 85% of my shoping is done through Royal Distrubting. Either on thier site and I order through the catolagues. They have good prices and decent shipping plus If you phone them askng for parts they can get what you need. Even the oddball parts which has been espically helpful with the older skdoo's.

$90 bucks is highway robbery no matter where it's getting done. why did you bother going to a dealership anyways?.. I went to a regular service center and got all 3 of my tires dis-mounted, then mounted with new valve stems for under $25, in fact, it was $7 a tire with stems

I can get mine done for 8$ a tire, as long as they dont have to remove a old tire, then its 20$.

My guy charged me 25$ to mount one tire, I was very disappointed!!
I bought the HF tool and some tire spoons and do them all myself now.
When there worn out, I cut them off, melt the rubber till I get to the bands and cut them with diagonal pliers....
I HATE paying anyone of anything!!
Why dont you do soemthing with your time other than bother people at there jobs.
 good one homie!!
I get my tires mounted at 8 bucks per tire. :beer

Agreed!
I have worked at a dealer both full time on the parts and service side. I still work for a top 100 dealer in the US part time. YYZ is right. When you have someone rip a dunlop 208 sportbike tire due to a mishap, it cost money. Everything costs money. Its not highway robbery when you add up all the cost.

I work for one of the, if not THE largest independent tire dealers in the country, we have 140 plus stores across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Me personally, I work for a distribution center but, our truck tire division mounts 11r22.5,,11r24.5, and most of the other big truck tires for around $15 a piece. Those tires are between 150- 200 pounds a piece, So in my oppinion, $35 a piece for a 5-6 pound atv tire is highway robbery to say the least. Most of the tire shops that I deal with all have the latest, greatest tire machines, some cost upwards of $18,000(corghi) that handle up to 24 inch wheels, one guy that I deal with has a machine that handles motorcycle tires as well.. Chris, you just need to find the right place and not go to these money grubbing, greedy, dealers that don't think that their time is worth gold... just my .02

that is the stupidest thing i have ever read.....90 bucks is flat-out rape. local shops cost 10 bucks for a mount/balance on a CAR TIRE. its the same thing, minus the balancing.........dealerships SUCK.

x2, I can dismount and mount any tires, and I don't have any fancy tool. Just don't ask me to remove your tires from a mag and put it back on.

Lol.. I know better to even try to attempt mounting or dismounting atv tires without the proper tools. been there done that. and I dont mind paying a FEW BUCKS to have any shop do them. It's just less hassle on my part. drop them off.. wait a few minutes.. walaa! You just can't mount them with some bigass screw drivers without rippin your hair out.
But to charge someone $35 a piece is rediculous. plain and simple.
My buddy is takin them back to where he bought them on monday to have them mounted.($5 a piece to have them mounted if memory serves me correctly) He got there a bit late Saturday and they were closin up shop for the day.
I woulda just left them there but some guys are just impatient. ...AND he offered to buy the beer SO I said what the heck... bring them over and we'll give it a shot! :D

well chris i dont have any problems with truck tractor, atv, any kinda tires . i break the bead with the excavator or truck and then use a good sized flat bar i have and then use sither to set the beads and then air them up. easy as pie. i can normaly do a fullsize truck tire in abotu 5 min and a 4 wheeler tire in abotu 10 caus ei break bead cut the beads with a bolt cutter or cut off wheel and then flop tire off and then proceed to put nrew tre on with alot of soapy water and then blow her away!

When I worked at an auto shop, we charged by how many lugs the rim was. I think it was 40$ for 4 lug, 50$ for 5 lug, 80$ for 8 lug, etc. That was to do all 4 tires. That included jacking up the car, removing the wheel, dismounting the old tire, cleaning the rim, installing a new valve stem if it was needed, installing a new tire, balancing the wheel, and reinstalling on the car. Took about 1/2 hour for the whole car. I did friends cars for free or a nice discount, plus I have a tire machine at home and can do all my tires myself.
Ive found with dealerships, you really have to know someone there to get a deal at all, otherwise youre just another customer that they can make cough up.

I guess i am lucky to have such a great Yamaha dealer in my home town. They really go out of their way. The local Honda dealer is pretty good too. But, the next closest Honda/Yamahe shops are like most i suppose. Attitude, crazy high prices on minor shop services and generally bad attitudes. I just hope my local 'good' dealerships can weather this economic fall. Things have really been slow for them this winter.

For 5 or 10 bucks do your wheels get scratched to all hell when mount/dismounting or don't you care? A local shop did mine once. I insisted do not scratch the gold anodizing. Yea no problem, not a problem was the answer. Gotem back and the idiot scratched them real bad and dented the edge. Thank you ahole for lying to me.

I knew that wouldn't take long! lol lurkin on the boards...
Don't get me wrong guys I have a dealership in my area help me out tremedously with my tri z after it got smashed up. Gave me all sorts estimates for the work that needed to be done to get things right at no charge. I even had some of the guys from the sevice dept. callin me BS'n on the phone for an hour about my bike that time. Most dealerships wont even talk trikes these days. let alone work on them or give you the time of day to help locate parts.
It's just every time I've walked into this place mentioned above I've had bad service. not to mention their outragous rates and lack of people skillz.

I know how you feel about that- the local motorcycle/atv dealership actually forced my dad and I to leave when we brought in my KLT 160 to see if we could get it worked on. They said it was "too much of a liability"since 3-wheelers are dangerous. Kind of ironic because as we were leaving, a 16 year old kid on a Busa did a wheelie out of the parking lot. Which is more dangerous?
I have had better luck with them since they got a new manager and one of their new parts/service guys is a fellow triker. :D
