ive got my self a atc70, when i push the forks forward theres a rattle, but its coming from the rear, how do i check if bearings are gone?

also theres a metal cover with some screws on the rear axle, maybe this is clunking?

Please help me and tell me what i need to look for, also what else do i need to look for problem wise, its a rolling frame at the minute minus engine so not much should be wrong?

thanks

When I bought mine the rear axle bearings were fine but there was a lot of play in the front. I rocked mine from side to side to check mine and the rear felt real solid.

P.S. :welcome: aboard from way over there:beer

Is the chain on it at the moment? Worn chains, loose or worn sprockets and or chain adjuster will make clunk noise. Check for bearing wear by puttiing trike on milkcrate or stand and wiggle each wheel side to side, should be little if no freeplay?

i pulled out my entire rear axle and just replaced the bearings, i ended up getting sealed bearings for mine over at vintagemotorsports.net , it wasnt that much. and on top of it, since i was into it that far, i bought a new drum, cable, pads and just replaced it all. just get a beer and a socket and extension with a BFH (big friggin hammer) and swing away.

old bearings vs new

new bearings installed

if it is the chain or the tensioner then thats a whole other story

thanks guys, theres no chain on it, theres a 110 engine in it now but no chain.

so if i shake each wheel and theres play then its the bearings right? if not then something needs tightening!

so ill examine the rear end today, ive found bearings, for the rear its GBP £12 for left and right! so a cheap and well worth repair or good to buy for the future
