I just picked up a 1987 yamaha big wheel fot free today. I was wondering if anybody else had one of these cool toys. it needs a lot work but it has a lot of potential. I know its not a three wheeler but it will be a fun toy to take along with my 84 200 es. does anybody else have one of these and what do you think about it?

I'm with ya on that, but I always thought the 350 Big Wheel woulda made an even better trike( & not that it would EVER, EVER be anything like a 350X, but a good woods rig), with electric start! Too bad, seems not too many were made & when you do run across one, it's going for a lot of $$$

Well I got the big wheel running like a champ. The thing runs great for something that has been sitting outside for ten years.

Nice "free" find! I have an 86 Fatcat that is in about 200 pieces and is ready to begin the rebuild as soon as I shoot some paint on the frame and other white parts here in the next couple of weeks. I began it last August, but with too much to do and no time, it has taken me a lot longer than I had hoped. I have everything restored/new parts though to put it all back together other than taking the seat to get it redone, which I will do last.

In the mean time, my brother came across a kid in one of his HS classes that he teaches who had an 86 BW200 in great condition unrestored. I bought it sight unseen a few weeks back for $600. My brother said that there is no broken plastic, seat is perfect, tank is bright white, all decals are on it, everything works. Only thing missing is a chain guard. I am pretty excited to get the Fatcat done so that I can get the BW and it together to see how they compare.

Good luck on your's....will let you know if I come across anything, but from what I have found, ebay will often turn up some needed parts like a tank etc.

I think the yamaha bw 200 fuel tanks are still available from the factory . The cheapest place to find oem parts is at mrcycles.com

I have a 1986 BW200 and I need some info on the carb. It is a Teikei and the only info that I have on it is what i can find stamped on the carb 54g 01 5121. From what I've read on the inrernet. these carbs are junk. My bike will not idle at all. It dosn't matter what screws i adjust or anything the bike will not idle at all. Actually, i can adjust all the screws on it and no changes happen at all. What i would like to know is, what size carb would I need to get in order to do a swap with the stock carb? Also, I need some info on how the cam chain is tightened to get the slack out of it. I know that there is some sort of adjuster for it. If anyone can supply some sort of picture of one it would be appreciated. Thanks.:beer

Has any body had any electrical problems with these? I had it running great since I got it for free, now I can't get a spark out of it at all. I think it is the cdi unit. Coil and all wires are good. Any ideas about what to do or where to find a used cdi besides ebay or the dealer.

I have a problem with mine and I think it's the pulser. I replaced my cdi and no change.

really, how can you check the pulser? you have the same problem as me?

Yes, no spark at all. It was running one day and then nothing. I'm working on it though. I need my electrical buddy to come over and give me a hand by looking at the shop manual and seeing what I'm doing wrong.

please keep me informed i have the same problem, it was running great then the next day it wouldn't get a single spark. i have a new coil and new spark plug but nothing. i think it is the CDI or pulser but i have no idea how to sheck them. i have a shop manual which explans how to measure all the resistance in everything but i need to get a more sensitive multimeter. let me know what happens

I replaced the cdi in mine and it made no difference. Be careful saying it's just a random part. My buddy had 2 die on him and they were both pulsers.

a3dudek

did he check the pulser some how? is there a way to check it? i think you can check it with a multimeter, but i was wondering how your buddy determined it was the pulser
