350x engine question

I am rebuilding a 350x bottom end. When I got it the tranny was shot (broken teeth on several gears). I have another engine with a broken connecting rod but good tranny. The Honda repair manual says to always replace the left crank bearing when you remove the crank. Why? The crank was already out and the cases split when I got the motor and both bearings look fine. I really don't have the $$ for that left bearing. So why does Honda say to always replace it?

i dont really know why the left one is so special....i would do both now while its apart.
