What / where is the pick up for the timming for a 1985 yamaha tri zinger 60? While riding it died and it is getting spark and it is getting fuel but when pull starting it it pops through the exaust about every 4th pull while trying to start it almost likeit is out of time. Not sure where the ignition pick up is though. Any one got any ideas?

Are you using the tether when it is running, or do you have the special nut that you don't need the tether? Maybe the special nut fell off which is sort of the dead mans switch?

I just pulled the flywheel and everything back there looks good. I pulled the reeds and they look good. I am going to pull the carb apart because it looks like maybe the float is stuck, the plug is way wet.

I just pulled the carb apart and it was somewhat dirty so I cleaned it with carb cleaner and put it back together. Still nothing. I pulled the kill switch off the handle bars and disconnected the wires to make sure it wasn't killing it out. I pulled the plug, grounded it out on the head and have a nice blue spark. What am I missing?

History on this trike, bought it 5-1/2 years ago, rode the piss out of it quite often for about a year and a half, then it needed the top end done and parked it in the garage till 2 weeks ago, had the cylinder bored, head machned flat, put a piston, rod bearing, new clips, and pin. I put it together last sat, did the heat cycles and broke it in. Sat and sun it fired on the easiest pull, ran great and idled smooth. Then Monday, it fired up with no choke, first pull and ran fine, then rode around the house, killed it, started it right back up, rode across the street to the neighbors, killed it talked for 2-3 min then went to start it and it took about 3 pulls then rode it home some what spirited but not the hardest since the rebuild and it started sounding like it had an exaust leak or something then it died, the exhaust wasn't loose and it pulled started easy just like before but wouldn't start for anything.

Any ideas anyone, about to pull my hair out !!

I am going to buy a new plug today, the other one is about 4 years old from back when it ran and I am going to look into how the kill switch is wired since from the factory it had some funky start/run/off switch.

The old plug was a BP4HS and the manual calls out for a BP6HS. I am guessing the other was because the motor was about half wore out so the put a hotter plug in. I am going to put it in tonight and I printed out the wiring schematic for it so I can wire it up to have the start function.

the pipe could be plugged. One of mine the pipe had plugged just inside the joint where the silencer clamps to the main part of the pipe. Full of thick black sticky nasty goo. I did the best I could with screwdrivers and needle nose pliers. It finally started and ran okay after that.

I am going through the manual check list and I am trying to check the coil but the manual says primary and secondary but the coil just has a orage wire feeding it and the plug wire. Anyone have any ideas?
