View Full Version : Thinking of building a trail conversion
After my weekend riding trip, i was thinking about doing a trail bike conversion. I have been sorta brainstorming all day about what kind of bike i would like to model it after. I was thinking maybe a KDX or a RMX. Has anyone done a conversion on one of these bikes yet? I have always wanted to do a conversion but have never had any reason to, now i do.

If you mean using the DB chassis and motor as the basis, those seem to be the most difficult conversions. People have issues with seat height and steering rake, seems like allot of trial and error to get it close yet still not right.
I will say that the KDX 200 I had made great useable power, especially down low. It wasn't a lightswitch 2 stroke powerband at all.....
Even the 450R conversion has it's issues but people are working on that currently.
The next conversion I build (if I ever work again....) will be a 250 or 450F motor into a tried and true 86 250R chassis with a 450R rear end.
Sadly, I thought this April I'd begin but losing my job screwed it all up :(

A typical trail bike is merely a detuned MX bike.. a small carb, a heavy flywheel, and retarded or stock port timing would turn any trike into a trail snail...

just read your post about traIL bike conversion- and am very interested i currently have underway a suzuki dr350/350x/400ex conversion and so far its been quite simple- i am using the dr350 rear swinging front section
and a 400ex rear carrier with a trx450 axle. the front has a 350x tripples bored out to except standard dr forks wit a 350 x hub- will send pics if you re intereted - nick

Oh cool, I'd like to see/hear more about it- Are you using the DR350 motor, or the 350X motor? Please keep the forum updated.

Post some pics up or make a thread on this, I love conversions always cool to see how people fidgure out how to make things work that arent supposto. That was the funnest part of building my 450, just fidguring out how to make things work, and I still am doing that.

i think you will find kdx200's all day long over rmx250's an rmx250 is just a 89-92 rm250 basicly with a few changes. i have been looking into a conversion also, ive found somthing that looks it will work pretty darn well. but i cant tell you what im dreaming up or staching parts for haha.
