I put a new battery in my 200M a few weeks ago and the electric start was working fine. This past weekend I rode a bit and then put it away in the garage. I went out to start it yesterday morning, turned the key switch on and there was no green neutral light. I was able to pull start it so, I figured the battery was dead...I put the charger on it for a bit and checked it this morning but, it is still not working with the electric start. Any one have any ideas?

Check your ground and postive cables also check the neutral start switch. I know on my 250SX if the green light is not on--no electric start. Put a meter on the battery and check the voltage. I'd probably check the connection @ the neutral start switch first.

fuse might be blown.

yep fuse...some of the older motors that are getting worn can take a bit more juice to fire up and a tired old fuse can't take it...POP!

As Racer said...I'd Check the neutral switch wire, down below the crankcase, right side (at least on a 250sx, not 100% sure on a 200m). If that wire has come off the contact or is broken that would cause the green light not to go on.

Battery terminal connections come loose alot. Check them 1st!

As some have said, theres a fuse. On the 200 big red its right under the seat so id check that too. Thats what happened to mine.

Ok thanks for all the tips. The battery terminals are tight. I checked those. I will check the fuse and the neutral safety switch also.

If you know where your solenoid is then there are a couple of things you can do.

First, press the switch that normally turns it over and check for 12V at the solenoid SMALL wires. If you have voltage there every time you hit the switch and no volts when you release the switch, then all the neutrals etc are working fine. If not, then you need to follow the wiring diagram and see where that 12V is lost, it's actually very easy if you can read a diagram and use a mulitmeter.

If that portion checks out fine, then on that same solenoid where there are BIG FAT wires, jump them out with anything that is about the same thickness. This is the large amperage connection and if you use a teenie tiny wire to jump them, it will melt and or catch on fire

If that does not turn it over, then you have a bad battery, bad ground or a bad starter. At which point you have to narrow it down a bit more.

Honestly - it's easy... If the battery is good with good connections then you'll usually find a loose connection on a neutral switch or the solenoid wires or I've seen the push button itself making a bad contact.

PIECE OF CAKE!! :D

It was the fuse. I checked voltage at battery and it was reading 12.82v. Someone had jammed a thirty amp fuse into the fuse holder. It was blown so, I went to Honda and got the correct fuse for it...25 amp...bought a couple spares. She started right up with the new fuse.

Sometimes it's pretty simple...sometimes! :D
